  4. 4. Federalists  These people were the supporters of the Constitution  They wanted a strong federal, or national government
  5. 5. Anti-Federalists  These people were against the new Constitution  They feared that a strong central, or national government, would endanger the people’s liberties
  6. 6. The Federalist Papers  James Madison, Alexander Hamilton, and John Jay wrote a series of articles known as the Federalist Papers  They attempted to convince people why the Constitution needed to be ratified
