  3. 3. Literacy Percentage of illiterate people around the world has gone down to about half of what it was in 1970. Illiteracy decreased by a factor of 10 in 1970 and by a factor of 20 in 2000.
  4. 4. Elementary Education  Universal Primary Education is one of the eight Millennium Development Goals.  44% of the worlds population illiterate  dropped to 32.5% by 1990  by 1998 to 16%
  5. 5.  Study by the United Nations Childrens Fund, published in 1998 predicted that the world illiteracy rate would increase in the 21st century. because only a quarter of the worlds children were in school by the end of the 20th century.
  6. 6. Solutions GDP: 5.7% Government Control: good idea?
  7. 7.  Change the model! Just because it worked once, it doesn’t mean it will always work.
