The Social marketing campaign will
reach all segments of the Black
community, i.e. men, teens, elderly,
low, middle and upper income Blacks,
folks living in low income housing,
church members, barber shops,
beauty parlors, fraternities, sororities,
civic and social organizations and
businesses in the Black community of
Jacksonville.
We have compiled a list of business
leaders, health advocates, and
professionals to engage in forums and
as volunteer with the Black Infant
Health Community Coalition.
Each volunteer will commit 2‐5 hours
per week to offer mentoring,
blogging, counseling, at events, at‐
home assistance, transportation,
and/or Emergency Dispatch Services
via our 800# Hotline!

SOLUTIONS
•Pregnant mothers need an extended family to help with key choices
before, during, and after pregnancy.
•Peer to Peer Support from other pregnant women
•Increase access & diversity to quality health care facilities and
professionals.
•Reduce use of alcohol and tobacco by black mothers
•Incorporate neighborhood development and consumer participation in
the design and implementation of program interventions.
•Stress and relaxation-related coping methods (counseling, yoga, fun
activities) that reduce anxiety, anger, fear and depression which
increase the risk of low birth weight or premature births.
•Create a Black Infant Mortality Reduction Resource Center to
serve as an "educational clearinghouse" and provide support
to those interested in improving African Americans' maternal
and infant health.

Stress Monitor Mood Card / Ball
Use this stress indicator as your business card and it will be seen time and time again! The
Mood Card is a 20 mil thick plastic card with a liquid crystal sensor built in. Press the sensor
and get a body temperature reading that ranges from cool blue to tense black. Your message
is imprinted on the bottom half of the front of the card. Printing on the blank reverse side of
the card is available at an additional charge;

SUGGESTION - 1 out of every 5 black women giving birth in Health Zone 1
each week will be selected for a survey totaling 50 interviews from March �
June to share their feelings and experiences before, during and after
pregnancy.
Leading topics include:
- Pre-conception health, pregnancy intention, and assisted reproduction
- Prenatal care and health insurance
- Maternal and infant health care
- Exploration of intergenerational trends that perpetuate racism, segregation, unemployment,
inadequate housing, education, urban stress, teen pregnancy and even the sense of
hopelessness pervasive in many African-American neighborhoods
- Maternal smoking and alcohol use during pregnancy
- Breastfeeding
- Infant sleep position and other SIDS risk factors
- Partner abuse
- Survey will be supervised by the Black Infant Health Community Council.
Activities include:
Annual determination of questionnaire content
Management of the sampling process
Data management and analysis
Dissemination of results among local, state government and private sector programs
Education of families and health care providers on determinants of healthy pregnancy
