This is a research methods class proposal paper. I would like to answer exam question #1,
below. With the increase in the number of states that have legalized marijuana for medical
andrecreational purposes, the Department of Justice (DOJ) has released forthcoming
fundingopportunities regarding the impact of legalizingmarijuana on crime. You want to
submit yourproposal to the DOJ, and your proposal must include both quantitative and
qualitative elements. In your proposal, you should clearly state:a. A statement of purpose for
the study.b. An abbreviated literature review (include at least 7 sources).c. The research
hypothesis (or hypotheses).d. The unit of analysis and sampling method.e. The dependent
and independent variables and how they will be conceptualized andoperationalized.f.
Describe which components of the design are quantitative and which are qualitative.g.
Describe the statistical technique(s) that you will utilize in the analysis and explain whythe
technique(s)was/were chosen and how the technique(s) is the most
appropriateapproach.h. The strengths (two) and weaknesses (two) of the research design
you have chosen.Exam question should be treated like a stand-alone research paper with a
reference page. There is no page limitbut submitting a short answer is HIGHLY discouraged
as you typically need 8-12 double-spaced pages (with Times Roman 12 point font) to
properly answer EACH section question. The exam questions are not asking for youropinion
but for you to demonstrate command of the academic literature. We encourage you to
support youranswers with peer-reviewed journal articles published in the last five years.
On occasion, you may need to cite a historic source; however, the bulk of your referenced
materials should be from the last five years.
