This document discusses color modes used in design, including CMYK, RGB, hexadecimal, and HSB. It provides information on when each color mode should be used and what they are used for. CMYK is used for printing and is a subtractive process. RGB is used for screens and is an additive process. Hexadecimal is a renumbering of RGB values. Additional summaries from designers recommend working in RGB and converting to CMYK for print, as RGB has a larger color gamut and files are smaller. Colors can also have symbolic meanings associated with them.
2. COLORMODES
⢠CMYK â cyan, magenta, yellow and black
⢠Used in the printing process
⢠For reflected light
⢠A subtractive process
⢠RGB â red, green and blue
⢠Used when the output is a monitor (TV, computer screen, etc.)
⢠For transmitted light
⢠An additive process
⢠Hexadecimal â red, green and blue
⢠Simply a re-numeration of the RGB model
⢠#ffffff = white, #ff0000 = red, #00ff00 = green, etc
3. HSB â Hue, Saturation and Brightness
CMYK â Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, Black;
used in printing
RGB â Red, Green, Blue;
used in computer/television monitors
4. FROM DESIGNER ANDREW KELSALL
⢠RGB files are about 25 percent smaller
than CMYK.
⢠Many filters and functions are only
available to use in an RGB color mode in
Adobe Photoshop and similar programs.
⢠The RGB color gamut is larger than
CMYK
⢠Working in RGB means that the images
are Web-ready with no color conversion
(as opposed to designing for print in
CMYK and converting the color to RGB
for web-use).
5. FROM DESIGNER MIKE WILLIAMS
Most designers think if they are designing FOR print they should use
CMYK, or FOR screen use RGB.
Instead, they should be thinking if they are looking at color ON screen
use RGB, and if they are checking color ON a print use CMYK. While
working on a screen keep the colors RGB and before sending the files
to proof and print convert to CMYK.
You just cannot trust CMYK colors on a screen. Period.
8. Yellow is the color
of the mind and the
intellect. It is
optimistic and
cheerful. However it
can also suggest
impatience, criticism
and cowardice.
Yellow is also the
suicide prevention
color.

ambition and
determination. It is also
the color of anger and
sexual passion. Bad.

VARSITY SWIM
WAS THE FIRST TIME YOU

This year was much more
challenging than the last
because [it is] GB swim.
Last year was Gators which
wasnât a lot of commitment
and it was in the summer.
WHY dId YOU jOIn In THE FIRST plAcE?
I swim because I am required to if I play water polo, so I
donât really have much of a passion for it.
WHAT dO YOU lIkE And dOnâT lIkE AbOUT SWIM?
I donât like the amount of time thatâs required and
waiting around between races for meets, although I
love the feeling of getting a better time especially when
youâre in a relay and you help the team.
dO YOU gET AlOng WITH THE TEAM?
Many of my best friends are not on the team, but I get
along with everybody.
IS THERE AnYTHIng YOU STRUgglEd On?
Iâm terrible at both backstroke and butterfly, but to be
honest, I would ather focus on freestyle and breaststroke
so that I can at least be competitive in those two.
dO YOU RElAx bEFORE A RAcE OR jUMp AROUnd
TO gET YOUR EnERgY FlOWIng?
Before a race, I swim 6-10 laps to warm up and then right
before, I jump in and I usually shake out my arms a lot.
