  1. 1. CONTENT MARKETING ON THE INTERNET AND BEYOND1. Define Your Target Audience. Who do you want to reach? What are their needs? Whatchallenges can you solve for them? Where do they spend their time? How can you engagethem?2. Optimize Your Website. Incorporate key words and phrases that your audience woulduse to find you. Update your site frequently, generate incoming links, and continually addnew content.3. Implement a blog. A blog can help you build your audience, attract website traffic, andgenerate new clients, consulting opportunities, media interviews, speaking engagements, andmore. Update yours at least twice each week and monitor results over time. Your blog shouldalso be at the heart of your social media strategy.4. Develop a Content Marketing Strategy. Create ebooks, white papers, and specialreports that you can give away. Distribute articles to websites that reach your target audienceor write articles for print publications.5. Expand with Video and Podcasts. Create compelling videos to post on your websiteand distribute to http://YouTube.com and http://vimeo.com. Conduct your own webinars orteleseminars or participate as a guest on other people’s programs. Podcasts can be distributedto iTunes.6. Tap into the Power of Community. Figure out where your audience spends their timeand get engaged there or start your own community. Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn each have their own uniqueadvantages. Start by engaging with one, and then begin to explore the others. Pay attention towhat you like and don’t like about how others use these networks and develop your ownauthentic strategy. Be sure to share your blog posts, tips, and other content that appeals toyour target audience.8. Commit a Little Time Each Day. Set aside an hour each day to develop content, engagein social media, and cultivate community.
