Background on ISTC Purpose:   p Enable the unique identification of textual works (in varying formats &  media) and the automated aggregation, collocation, filtering, etc. of  p publication records. Practical Application: Identify related works based on content so that websites can display  print, ebook & audio together for customer. State of Development:   ISO standard since March 2009.

Already Using “Work” Identifiers? • Do you model the concept of a parent work? y p p – How do you assign multiple parents for derived works? • Does your logic correspond with ISTC for determining a new  work already? k l d ? – Are abridged audiobooks new works? – Are illustrated editions new works? – Is an annually revised publication a succession of new works? • Same title, same contributors—How do you account for  typos?
