Types of prayer – part one, requests

  1. 1. SOME OF THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF PRAYER • Request Prayer • Intercessory Prayer • Praise and Thanksgiving Prayer • Spirit-inspired Prayer
  2. 2. TODAY: “REQUEST PRAYER” “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:6, 7). “May we shout for joy over your victory and lift up our banners in the name of our God. May the LORD grant all your requests” (Psalm 20: 5)
  3. 3. REQUEST PRAYER PASSAGES, CONTINUED “Hear my cry for help, my King and my God, for to you I pray. In the morning, LORD, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly” (Psalm 5.2, 3) And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the Lord's people (Ephesians 6: 8).
  4. 4. “REQUESTS” - DEFINITION “Seeking, Asking, Entreating” Supplication, Entreaty, Request, Petition You are presenting to God what it is you want Him to do, produce, affect, provide, make possible, accomplish in your life
  5. 5. SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF A PRAYER REQUEST Depth of Purpose Urgency Pleasing to God Productive Specific Edifying / Beneficial “God-sized”
  6. 6. REQUESTS VS INTERCESSIONS Some crossover but requests are focused on you, your life, what it is you desire for yourself in some way. Intercessions are your requests on behalf of others, their life, what it is you believe they need or that God wants to accomplish in their life.
