In this album I have puttogether some of the nicestpictures of polar bears takenby some of the worlds greatestphotographers.
I wanted to show how thebeautiful bears act in their ownenvironment and how they arenot that different from humans insome ways.
The polar bear is a bear native largely within theArctic circle encompassing the Arctic Ocean, itssurrounding seas and surrounding land masses. It isthe worlds largest land carnivore and also the largestbear, together with the omnivorous Kodiak bearwhich is approximately the same size. An adult maleweighs around 350–680 kg (770–1,500 lb), while anadult female is about half that size. Although it isclosely related to the brown bear, it has evolved tooccupy a narrow ecological niche, with many bodycharacteristics adapted for cold temperatures, formoving across snow, ice, and open water, and forhunting the seals which make up most of its diet.
Polar bears are among the largestmembers of the bear family. Theirwhite coat is actually composed ofhollow hairs that reflectsunlight, producing awhitish/yellow camouflage intheir Arctic habitat. Underneaththe snowy coat is blackskin, which helps them retain heatfrom sunlight.
Hope you enjoyed looking at thewonderful pictures in my album
