The Battle for Stalingrad The Battle of Stalingrad -At least 40,000 civilian casualties -40,000 civilians were killed in the beginning of the battle -740,000 Germans werekilled -740,000 Germans killed -1,700,000 Red Army soldiers started out or missing Stalingrad -750,000 Russians killed, captured, fighting for - -At the beginning of the battle there were 1,700,000 soldiers in the Red Army group at Stalingrad -There was 850,000 soldiers in the German army group commanded to take Stalingrad -The Germans bombed the city for a few days before sending in the ground troops(that's why so many civilians died) -General Maximilian von Weichs commanded the German Army Group(B) that attacked Stalingrad -Before the battle Stalin gave an order to the entire Russian Army.
