Gita is spoken by Supreme Lord Sri Krishna to Arjuna for the benefit of mankind. Any one who is willing to read with open min is the perfect candidate for reading Gita. It talks about ourselves(atma), talkes about material energy(prakriti), how material energy affects us, what is karma, who is Krishna, how we are related to Krishna and how to reach Krishna.

  • About me: I am Bhaskarananda das. We were expecting HH Danavir Goswami for the lecture. Unfortunately, he could not come due to another engagement.

  • Om ajnana……..Gita solves the for main problems of human life. Birth, death, od age and disease(janma mrityu dukha doshanu darshanam). These are the common problems every human has to face at some point of time. If we solve these problems , we solve other problems too. All other problems are small before these. The one solves these problems is the most intelligent.Gita mahatmaya shloka (4) Padma Puranagita sugita kartavya kim anyaih shastra vistaraihya svyam padama nabhaayasa mukha padmad vinih srita (Gita-mahatmya 4)This Gita which has come out of the lotus-like face of the Lord (He who has the lotus in His navel) and which is so melodious, should be studied. There is no need to study any other scriptures in detail.Gita 9.2rāja-vidyā rāja-guhyaḿpavitram idam uttamampratyakṣāvagamaḿ dharmyaḿsu-sukhaḿ kartum avyayamThis knowledge is the king of education, the most secret of all secrets. It is the purest knowledge, and because it gives direct perception of the self by realization, it is the perfection of religion. It is everlasting, and it is joyfully performed.Gita 9.3aśraddadhānāḥ puruṣādharmasyāsya parantapaaprāpya māḿ nivartantemṛtyu-saḿsāra-vartmaniThose who are not faithful in this devotional service cannot attain Me, O conqueror of enemies. Therefore they return to the path of birth and death in this material world.
  • Accept the whole philosophy not just parts. Just like a foolish farmer cutting off chicken head since it doesn’t give eggs.Gita 4.3sa evāyaḿ mayā te 'dyayogaḥ proktaḥ purātanaḥbhakto 'si me sakhā cetirahasyaḿ hy etad uttamamThat very ancient science of the relationship with the Supreme is today told by Me to you because you are My devotee as well as My friend and can therefore understand the transcendental mystery of this science.Gita4.2evaḿ paramparā-prāptamimaḿ rājarṣayo viduḥsa kāleneha mahatāyogo naṣṭaḥ parantapaThis supreme science was thus received through the chain of disciplic succession, and the saintly kings understood it in that way. But in course of time the succession was broken, and therefore the science as it is appears to be lost.
  • Gita 2.20na jāyate mriyate vā kadācinnāyaḿ bhūtvā bhavitā vā na bhūyaḥajo nityaḥ śāśvato 'yaḿ purāṇona hanyate hanyamāne śarīreFor the soul there is neither birth nor death at any time. He has not come into being, does not come into being, and will not come into being. He is unborn, eternal, ever-existing and primeval. He is not slain when the body is slain.Gita 2.23nainaḿ chindanti śastrāṇinainaḿ dahati pāvakaḥna cainaḿ kledayanty āpona śoṣayati mārutaḥThe soul can never be cut to pieces by any weapon, nor burned by fire, nor moistened by water, nor withered by the wind.Gita 2.24acchedyo 'yam adāhyo 'yamakledyo 'śoṣya eva canityaḥ sarva-gataḥ sthāṇuracalo 'yaḿ sanātanaḥThis individual soul is unbreakable and insoluble, and can be neither burned nor dried. He is everlasting, present everywhere, unchangeable, immovable and eternally the same.Gita 2.22vāsāḿsi jīrṇāni yathā vihāyanavāni gṛhṇāti naro 'parāṇitathā śarīrāṇi vihāya jīrṇānyanyāni saḿyāti navāni dehīAs a person puts on new garments, giving up old ones, the soul similarly accepts new material bodies, giving up the old and useless ones.
  • Three ropes/invisible ropesGita 14.5sattvaḿ rajas tama itiguṇāḥ prakṛti-sambhavāḥnibadhnanti mahā-bāhodehe dehinam avyayamMaterial nature consists of three modes — goodness, passion and ignorance. When the eternal living entity comes in contact with nature, O mighty-armed Arjuna, he becomes conditioned by these modes.
  • Gita 7.14daivī hy eṣā guṇa-mayīmama māyā duratyayāmām eva ye prapadyantemāyām etāḿ taranti teThis divine energy of Mine, consisting of the three modes of material nature, is difficult to overcome. But those who have surrendered unto Me can easily cross beyond it.18.2718.28

I am, in one sense, everything, but I am independent. I am not under the modes of material nature, for they, on the contrary, are within Me.Krishna creates material energy but he is never under its influence just like king creates jail but he is above that level.

All the great sages such as Nārada, Asita, Devala, and Vyāsa confirm this truth about You, and now You Yourself are declaring it to me. O Kṛṣṇa, I totally accept as truth all that You have told me. One who has dedicated his life to the service of Kṛṣṇa through these nine methods should be understood to be the most learned person, for he has acquired complete knowledge.

Those who reach it never return to this material world.
  • 1)Maha is a Sanskrit word meaning great. Mantra is formed by two words, mana and tra. Mana means mind and tra means freeing. So the Maha Mantra is the great chanting for deliverance. It is the sound that liberates the mind from ignorance. Hare is the vocative for Hara. Hara is the form of addressing the energy of the Lord. Krishna and Rama are names of the Lord meaning "the all-attractive" and "the supreme pleasure " respectively. So the Maha Mantra means "O energy of the Lord (Hare), O all-attractive Lord (Krishna), O Supreme Enjoyer (Rama), please engage me in Your service." By constantly chanting the names of the Lord and asking Him to engage us in His service, and actually engaging ourselves in His transcendental loving service one indeed feels spiritual bliss. 2)harer nama harer nama harer namaiva kevalamkalau nasty eva nasti eva nasti eva gatir anyatha(brhan-naradiya purana)In this age of Kali, there is no alternative, there is no alternative, there is no alternative for spiritual progress other than the chanting of the holy name, the chanting of the holy name, the chanting of the holy name of the Lord." 3)Kali-santarana Upanisadhare krsna hare krsnakrsna krsna hare harehare rama hare ramarama rama hare hareiti sodasakam namnamkali-kalmasa-nasanamnatah parataropayahsarva-vedesu drsyate"After searching through all the Vedic literature one cannot find a method of religion more sublime for this age than the chanting of Hare Krsna."4)Visnu Puranadhyayan krte yajan yajnais-tretayam dvapare rcayanyadapnoti tadapnoti kalau samkirtaya kesavam"The supreme goal which was attained in Satya-yuga by years of prolonged meditation; in Treta-yuga by performing extensive yajnas; in Dvapara-yuga by opulent and scrupulous Deity worship; in Kali-yuga the same results are easily had simply by the chanting of the holy name."5) SB1.1.14āpannaḥ saḿsṛtiḿ ghorāḿyan-nāma vivaśo gṛṇantataḥ sadyo vimucyetayad bibheti svayaḿ bhayamLiving beings who are entangled in the complicated meshes of birth and death can be freed immediately by even unconsciously chanting the holy name of Kṛṣṇa, which is feared by fear personified.6)9.14satataḿ kīrtayanto māḿyatantaś ca dṛḍha-vratāḥnamasyantaś ca māḿ bhaktyānitya-yuktā upāsateAlways chanting My glories, endeavoring with great determination, bowing down before Me, these great souls perpetually worship Me with devotion.7) Madhvacharya, quoting Narayana Samhita, in his Mundakopanisad Bhasya says –dvapariyair janair visnuh pancaratrais tu kevalamkalau tu nama-matrena pujyate bhagavan harih"In the Dvapara-yuga people should worship Lord Visnu only by the regulative principles of the pancaratra and other such authorized books. In the Age of Kali, however, people should only chant the holy names of the Supreme Personality of Godhead." 3.13yajña-śiṣṭāśinaḥ santomucyante sarva-kilbiṣaiḥbhuñjate te tv aghaḿ pāpāye pacanty ātma-kāraṇātThe devotees of the Lord are released from all kinds of sins because they eat food which is offered first for sacrifice.
