affects how they function at
home, school or in the
community
According to a report by the
Australian Council for Educational
Research, 1 in 5 students feel like
they don't belong in school.
My voice mattered in decisions that
directly affected my
learning and experiences.
Never Rarely Occasionally Frequently Always
In a survey by Quaglia and Corso, only half the students surveyed felt like
they were a valued member of their school community.
The study also proves that students who believe they have a voice in
school are 7 times more likely to excel academically.
There were 53.1 million students in the United States as of
2018, the most recent official data available.This is higher
than the number of administrators, approximately 460,000,
and the number of public school teachers, 3.1 million. Yet
while students comprise the largest population of
educational stakeholders, they are rarely included in
education governance at any level. And although they are
among those most affected by education policy choices,
they are often left out of education policy decision-making.
As a student, I have a say in what I
wanted my education to look like.

60% of students who complete high school in Mexico do not understand what they
read.
Only 1 in 10 children who start school in Cambodia today will finish high school.
