Robotics Team Safety

  2. 2. What is our team safety philosophy? <ul><li>End your day in the same condition or better condition than you started. </li></ul><ul><li>Know how to be safe through proper training. </li></ul><ul><li>Keep your team mates safe. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Fooling around, practical jokes, running, or pushing are all safety violations. </li></ul><ul><li>Do not use any tool until you have been trained on the operation of the tool. </li></ul><ul><li>Tools must be used for the purposes in which they are intended. Uses other than the intended purpose are a safety violation. </li></ul><ul><li>A clean workspace is a safe workspace. </li></ul><ul><li>Be aware of your surroundings. </li></ul><ul><li>Take your time, rushed or impulsive work is unsafe to you and others. </li></ul>Safe Behavior
  4. 4. P.P.E. Personal Protective Equipment And its proper use
  5. 5. What is P.P.E <ul><li>P = Personal </li></ul><ul><li>P = Protective </li></ul><ul><li>E = Equipment </li></ul><ul><li>Your PPE are the extra tools that are required to ensure your safety. When using the tools you need to fabricate and operate your robot always wear the proper PPE. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Clothing <ul><li>Protect your body – Don’t wear loose clothing when operating power tools or when working around moving parts. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Shoes <ul><li>Protect your feet & toes - Wear closed toe shoes and socks. </li></ul><ul><li>Working with tools and metal greater than 1 pound require that your feet are protected. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Gloves <ul><li>Protect your hands and fingers - Wear gloves. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Safety Glasses <ul><li>Protect your eyes – Wear safety glasses when working with any power tool, hand tools or soldering iron. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Face Shield <ul><li>Protect your face – Wear a face shield when operating a grinder or chop saw. </li></ul>
  11. 11. Hearing Protection <ul><li>Protect your hearing – Use ear plugs when working with a sander, grinder or noisy cutting equipment. </li></ul>
  12. 12. Dust Mask <ul><li>Protect your lungs - Always use a dust mask when sanding or using aerosols. </li></ul>
  13. 13. First Aid <ul><li>Know the location of a first aid kit and eye wash station or kit. </li></ul><ul><li>Notify a teacher or adult mentor immediately in the event of an accident or injury no matter how minor. </li></ul>

Pre-Task Plan <ul><li>Who, where, when, how many </li></ul><ul><li>Are you ready to work yes or no </li></ul><ul><li>Do you have the proper safety equipment </li></ul><ul><li>Describe what you’re doing </li></ul><ul><li>Describe how you could get hurt </li></ul><ul><li>What can you do to prevent an injury </li></ul><ul><li>Everyone involved in the task sign in if you join the group late review the plan and sign. </li></ul><ul><li>Use the back of the PTP to record your successes or any notes about your robot. </li></ul>
