New challengers are moving in. Competitors are trying new models, techniques, ideas, and solutions in attempts to gain revenue and market share. Globalization has expanded customer options, and economic power is shifting to rapidly developing markets. Apprehension and uncertainty still lingers from 2008’s economic downturn. Companies have been “globalizing” for years, but the challenge is to integrate those operations and make them nimble. People and operations must be connected in ways that enable collaboration and increase productivity. Information technology is making the world smaller and faster – connecting people and machines in ways unthinkable five years ago. Information is expected in real time and consumed at a breakneck pace. It’s critical that you are aware of what is happening in your markets and be able to share that information with those who need to know. The organization that’s in touch with trends and customer needs will be better prepared to anticipate and respond to them. Finally, most responsible enterprises are seeking a way to live in better harmony with the environment, establishing sustainable business practices and responding to demands from both traditional and non-traditional stakeholders.
