  3. 3. What is Snapchat? • Photo messaging application • Send timed photos 1-10 seconds • Time runs out, photo goes away • Record videos 1-10seconds • Time runs out, video goes away • Able to add text or drawing • Send to a controlled list of recipients or a specific recipient • “Snaps”
  4. 4. Snapchat: How did it happen? • Developed by two Stanford University students Evan Spiegel and Robert Murphy for a Product Design Course • Originally released as Picaboo in April 2011 • Rereleased as Snapchat in July 2014 • July 2012- IPhone • Nov 2012-Andriod
  5. 5. Snapchat: How did it happen? • App Mascot: “Ghostface Chillah” based off the hip-hop group Wu-Tang Clan • May 2012- 25 images per second • Nov 2012-over 20million per day • June 2013- SnapKids –Under 13yrs old • Can not “snap” to other users, only save on devices
  6. 6. Features of Snapchat • June 2013- update design enhancements, including swipe navigation, double-tap to reply, an improved friend finder, and in-app profiles • June 2014- Snapchat Stories and Replays
  7. 7. Misconceptions of Snapchat • In the study, only 1.6% of respondents reported using Snapchat primarily for sexting, although 14.2% admitted to having sent sexual content via Snapchat at some point.
  8. 8. How to use or download Snapchat • Go to App Store or Play Book • Search Snapchat • Create “screen name” • Enter in Birthdate for verification • To add friends: • searching for user name or • Linked to phone number in cell phone

How to use Snapchat • Click Camera Link • To take a picture • Take a pictures • Point and Press the Round Circle on mid- bottom of the page • Take a Video • Point and Hold the Round Circle on mid- bottom of the page Flash or No Flash Flip Camera Direction Record or take Picture or Video List of Sent/Received Snaps List of Friends and Stories

How to use Snapchat • Type text • After taking a picture or video, tap middle of the screen to open text box (“T” will appear) • After entering text, click “T” on top right to change font/sizes • Draw • After taking a picture or video, tap pencil icon in the top right corner • You will then be able to chose from colors to draw • After applying a color/drawing, a “reverse” symbol will appear so you will be able to delete coloring
