Learning objectives for the four sessions <ul><li>To help you to: </li></ul><ul><li>Understand the National Curriculum for Design and Technology </li></ul><ul><li>Develop knowledge of health and safety in D&T </li></ul><ul><li>Understand the cross curricular nature of D&T </li></ul><ul><li>Develop planning skills </li></ul><ul><li>Develop assessment skills </li></ul>
  4. 4. Sessions this Year <ul><li>Session 2 – Teddy Bears’ Trollies </li></ul><ul><li>Making with resistant materials </li></ul><ul><li>The three types of D&T activity </li></ul><ul><li>Planning D&T activities safely </li></ul>
  5. 5. Breadth of Study <ul><li>IDEAS – investigating and evaluating a range of products; </li></ul><ul><li>FPTs – focused practical tasks; </li></ul><ul><li>DMAs – design and make assignments. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Design and Make Task <ul><li>In pairs, design and make a trolley for your Teddy Bear so that he can travel to the picnic. </li></ul>
  7. 7. <ul><li>Start by making a Jinks frame that is big enough for your Teddy Bear. </li></ul><ul><li>Draw it out on 1cm squared paper first and use your drawing to check before you cut. </li></ul>Helpful Hints: The Chassis
  8. 8. Helpful Hints: Wheels and Axles <ul><li>Product Analysis (IDEA) </li></ul><ul><li>Look at the range of wheeled toys. </li></ul><ul><li>Divide them into fixed and moving axles </li></ul><ul><li>Now add wheels and axles to your frame </li></ul>
  9. 9. Helpful Hints: The seat <ul><li>Add a place for your Teddy to sit </li></ul><ul><li>you can make a net for an open card box </li></ul><ul><li>or </li></ul><ul><li>use recycled materials. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Unit of Work Planning Activity: <ul><li>Working in pairs, complete the Unit of Work Proforma for Designing and Making a Vehicle using a Jinks Frame. </li></ul><ul><li>These are not detailed lesson plans, but an outline that you would be basing the detailed lesson plans on. </li></ul>
