- The Great Tribulation is referred to by Jesus, John, the prophets/ apostles in different ways. Biblical eschatology typically refers to it as the 7 year period where rapture and second coming takes place accompanied by a vast number of destructive events on earth. Jesus in Mt 24 tells his disciples in v 9, “Then they will deliver you to tribulation” and later on says in v. 21 ”For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.”
- Matthew 24:22 ESV - And if those days had not been cut short, no human being would be saved. But for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.
- At the consummation of the First Resurrection there are three companies of believers who will have been raised at different times. Let us say, for clarity, there are three stages of the resurrection of believers: (1) When our Lord was crucified on the Cross, we read: “And, behold the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent; And the graves were opened; and many bodies of the saints which slept arose” (Matthew 27:51-52). (2) There is the second stage of the First Resurrection to which we already have made mention (1 Thessalonians 4:16), when all true believers are raised at the first appearance of Christ. To this we add the Apostle Paul’s word in First Corinthians: “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump; for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed” (1 Corinthians 15:52). (3) The third and final stage of the First Resurrection occurs about seven years after the resurrection of saints at Christ’s coming at the rapture. “Those resurrected near the close of the seven years’ period of the tribulation are the multitude of believers who were led to the truth through the witness of the 144,000.” Because they would not receive the mark of the beast in their hands and foreheads, they were martyred. These are brought forth from the dead at the end of the Tribulation just before Christ comes to earth to reign for one thousand years. Rev 20:4 Bible.org
- In the rapture, there is a catching up and meeting Christ in the air. The second coming is when Christ descends to earth to rule.
- After this I saw four angels standing at the four corners of the earth, holding back the four winds of the earth, that no wind might blow on earth or sea or against any tree. Then I saw another angel ascending from the rising of the sun, with the seal of the living God, and he called with a loud voice to the four angels who had been given power to harm earth and sea, saying, “Do not harm the earth or the sea or the trees, until we have sealed the servants of our God on their foreheads.” And I heard the number of the sealed, 144,000, sealed from every tribe of the sons of Israel: 12,000 from the tribe of Judah were sealed, 12,000 from the tribe of Reuben, 12,000 from the tribe of Gad, ... - …I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom. (Dan. 7:21-22). This environment, though Eden like will be slightly different to the Final Frontier – new heaven and earth in that amongst other things, there is no sea, no wicked, etc. in the latter. Isaiah 11, Rev 20.
- Revelation 19:11-21 ESV Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. ... Revelation 16:14-16 ESV 14 For they are demonic spirits, performing signs, who go abroad to the kings of the whole world, to assemble them for battle on the great day of God the Almighty. 15 (“Behold, I am coming like a thief! Blessed is the one who stays awake, keeping his garments on, that he may not go about naked and be seen exposed!”) 16 And they assembled them at the place that in Hebrew is called Armageddon.
- This call is at the final days.. She is clothed in "purple and scarlet" (v 4), the colors of the Catholic clergy. The Catholic Encyclopediastates, Cappa Magna - A cloak with a long train and a hooded shoulder cape...[it] was purple wool for bishops; for cardinals, it was scarlet watered silk.... Cassock - The close-fitting, ankle-length robe worn by the Catholic clergy as their official garb....The color for bishops and other prelates is purple, for cardinals scarlet.... (Emphasis added)4 Her incredible wealth next caught John's eye. She was "decked with gold and precious stones and pearls...." (v 4) Even Christ's blood-stained cross has been turned to gold, reflecting her riches. The Catholic Encyclopedia says, "The pectoral cross [suspended by a chain around the neck of abbots, bishops, archbishops, cardinals and the pope] should be made of gold and...decorated with gems...." 5 She had "a golden cup [chalice] in her hand full of abominations and filthiness of her fornication" (v 4). The Catholic Encyclopedia calls the gold chalice "the most important of the sacred vessels...."6 That Church is known for its many thousands of gold chalices around the world. A recent newspaper article reported,
- It is not for us to judge the sanctity of one church over another where God’s people abide. It is for us to take heed of where we stand, our church stands and fear the word of the Lord.
- For Ever and Ever The English phrase for ever and ever in verse 10 is a gross mis-translation of the original Greek phrase eis tous aeonas ton aionon, which means, 'to the ages of the ages'. A more correct translation of verse 10 is as follows: “And the devil who deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and false prophet were. And shall be tormented day and night until the age of ages.” Satan will not endure everlasting punishing; he will have his existence terminated; he will cease to exist forever. The age spoken of in verse 10 is the termination of an age. It is the time when the existence of physical humans on earth will end. - The Lake of Fire [1] in which evil spirits and humans will be cast is a physical place that burns with physical fire (Matt.25:40-41; Rev.20:7-10) and turned to physical ashes that will be trodden under the feet of the righteous (Mal.4:1-3), 41 “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. – Matt 25
- In my view the “healing” will be more in preventive than corrective mode. With Satan gone and only true believers filtered out, plus the powerful leadership of Christ and God, what could go wrong?
