  1. 1. Expert SystemExpert system is an artificial intelligent program that consists of basic knowledgeabout something. Consist basic knowledge and also inference machine that willhelp to sort out and came out with an answer. Expert system is similar with anexpert itself, only it’s artificial intelligent and work like a computer, therefore itneeds detailed question. It works like consultants, but it doesn’t replace the realexpert itself, expert system contains the knowledge from experts. It helps toanswer questions, and also to make decisions.There are different definition of expert system from lots of experts, somedefinition are:Durkin: Computer program that is set to have the ability to make decision thatused information from the expertsIgnizio: Model and procedure where the level from this model is similar with thereal expert itselfGiarratano and Riley: Computer system that is similar with the real expertsitself.There are some differences between expert system and also the real expert itself.The differences is such as: - Expert system work every hour, twenty-four-seven. While the expert itself work only during the work hour. - Expert system can be found anywhere, while the real expert can only found in several place - The safety of expert system can be replaced, while the safety for the real expert can’t be replaced - The quality of work of expert system is constant because it’s a machines. While the expert itself have different quality of work in different time, it depends on their mood - The price for expert system is reachable, while the price for the real expert is very high.These are the examples of expert system: - MYCIN: disease diagnose - DENDRAL: indentifying the unidentified molecule structure - Prospector: Geography knowledge - FOLIO: Stocks and investationThere are some benefits and disadvantages of using expert systems itself.Benefits: 1. Able normal person to do expert stuff 2. Storing the knowledge of different experts 3. Able to operate in dangerous environment 4. Save time on decision making 5. Able to work with a little of information 6. Improves output and productivity
