  3. 3. What is Dwarfism? <ul><li>A dwarf is someone who doesn’t grow enough </li></ul><ul><li>A male is considered to be a dwarf if he is under 5 feet or 1.5 m </li></ul><ul><li>A female is considered to be a dwarf if she is 4 feet 8 inches or 1.4 m </li></ul>

Causes of Dwarfism <ul><li>There are 200 conditions that cause dwarfism, most commonly are: </li></ul><ul><li>The most common cause is called achondroplasia: where bones do not grow. </li></ul><ul><li>It is caused by genetic reasons. </li></ul><ul><li>It is caused by malnutrition. </li></ul>

Wrong Myths about Dwarfism <ul><li>Dwarfs are not intelligent (WRONG) </li></ul><ul><li>Dwarfs do not live long (WRONG) </li></ul><ul><li>Dwarfs should not go to school (WRONG) </li></ul><ul><li>Dwarfs are incapable to have a job (WRONG) </li></ul><ul><li>Dwarfs do not have all human body parts (WRONG) </li></ul><ul><li>Midget is not the proper word and it might offend the short person. The best way is to call short people by their names!!! </li></ul>
