The Democratic Republic of the Congo is a central African country located in the heart of sub-Saharan Africa. It has experienced prolonged instability and conflict since gaining independence from Belgium in 1960 which has negatively impacted its economy and development. Despite its mineral wealth and biodiversity, the DRC remains one of the poorest and most unstable countries in the world due to ongoing violence and corruption.
