  • File Conversion Defined as “making a round peg fit in square hole” Seriously, the essence of file conversion is changing the digital format of any type of file, whether image, audiovisual, or text that it can be read by software not native to the original file format All digital files are defined by their format, the format determines the software used to access it. Sometimes, we need to access or use the file with software it was not made for, so we change the format to fit the software
  • Doc to PDF – security/diff versions of Word, PDF standard format File size (sending in emails) Video formats – closed standard vs. open standard
  • Patrons/Staff – file conversion allows you send information between computers and be readable by computers with different software Ability to access information in a file where you do not have native software User generated content – right file type for right service
  • Help Menus Define Resource tool built into most software and programs that allows you access information about its operation and functions Usually located toward the top left main menu options of most software interfaces Most Help Menu’s are both browse able and searchable Some offer training instruction/tool Help Menu’s are designed for the troubleshooting user Why Important Is your first line of defense when using new software (that and Google) Can rescue you when helping a patron What if you don’t have Internet access? Where’s that darn computer guy/person? Things You Should Be Able to Do : Find your help menu for said program Be able to bring up the help interface Understand the different ways to access information from the interface Hopefully understand and apply that information to the task at hand
