  2. 2. <ul><li>Batman doesn’t only protect Gotham city! </li></ul><ul><li>He protects words with short vowel sounds. </li></ul>
  3. 3. <ul><li>Can anybody give me an example of a word with a short vowel sound? </li></ul>
  4. 4. <ul><li>Batman can’t protect every word with a short vowel sound, so Robin comes along to help him. Together they protect words from changing when ‘ing’ is added to them. </li></ul>
  5. 5. <ul><li>Here are some more examples of words with short vowel sounds on them. Do you notice something they all have in common? </li></ul>
  6. 6. <ul><li>Mask and ask </li></ul><ul><li>Task band stamp </li></ul><ul><li>Fast chant craft </li></ul><ul><li>Cast grant </li></ul><ul><li>Champ plant </li></ul><ul><li>Cramp scant </li></ul>

  8. 8. <ul><li>When we add ‘ing’ to short vowel words (a,e,i,o,u) ending in two or three consonants we simply add the letters </li></ul><ul><li>i, n and g. </li></ul><ul><li>hand – handing </li></ul><ul><li>post – posting </li></ul><ul><li>rock - rocking </li></ul>

  15. 15. <ul><li>Batman doesn’t protect words with a short vowel ending with one consonant so we have to double the last letter. </li></ul><ul><li>hop - hopping </li></ul><ul><li>beg - begging </li></ul>

  17. 17. <ul><li>shop </li></ul><ul><li>ping </li></ul>
