Charles manson

 1. 1. Charles Manson
By Tyler Hudson
And Tim Smith
2. 2. Introduction
Have you ever heard of a person named Charles Manson? If you haven't, you have probably been living in a hole for most of your life. Charles Manson, and his followers, who are referred to as "The Family," did some of the most gruesome murders of the 20th century. Charles Manson was an environmentalist who wanted to protect planet earth from the dangers we live in. Our earth is slowly dying from the pollution which is causing global warming and melting our ozone and ice caps and destroying farms because the heat is rising so fast.
3. 3. Band Tie
"ATWA" a song wrote by system of the down means air trees water animals. Charles Manson an environmentalist who was a serial killer. Charles Manson wanted to preach how we are killing the earth cutting down the forests polluting the air and water, all of our animals becoming extinct. Charles was also part of a clan known as "the Family" and when would send people to go and kill people who didn't believe what he believed in. He was a person who tried to kill the president before he went to jail.
4. 4. Song Analysis
When it comes to the meaning of ATWA by system of a down it’s about how we’re treating earth. For the title of the song it means air, trees, water, animals (System of a Down meaning N/A). The mean of it the title is Air: We're polluting. Trees: We're cutting down to no end. Water: We're polluting it, and running out of fresh drinking water. Animals: We're killing them directly and indirectly (such as garbage and pollution). (System of a Down meaning N/A). "You don't care about how I feel." We no longer even think twice when we cut a forest down, kill an animal, drink a glass of water, or work in a factory. "Hey you are me, not so pretty..." We're not good people for what we've done on this world. That we can accept. And because of what we've done, our water is no longer clear, air in no longer pure, forests are becoming landscapes of stumps, and animals are just...dying. They are no longer "pretty". "Silent my voice, I've got no choice." In everything we do every day, ATWA (Air, Trees, Water, Animals), have no choice in the matter. We just kill them all mercilessly. And we never hear anything about it from them, because they cannot speak. "All the world I've seen before me passing by...." They've all been on this Earth longer than us. This can simply be a statement implying that. "I've got, nothing, to gain, to lose...." They don't. I believe this line came after the one mentioned just above, because they've been on this world longer than us, and they've always survived what has happened on the planet. Either that, or because we're killing the planet itself, no matter what we do, they die anyway, so what's the point? (System of a Down meaning N/A).
6. 6. Back story
System of a Down is an Armenian-American rock band from Southern California, formed in 1994. It consists of SerjTankian (lead vocals, keyboards, rhythm guitar), DaronMalakian (guitar, vocals), ShavoOdadjian (bass, background vocals) and John Dolmayan (drums). All members are of Armenian descent, and are known for their outspoken views expressed in many of their songs confronting the Armenian Genocide of 1915 as well as the ongoing War on Terrorism.
7. 7. Political/Cultural Climate
In the 60's and 70's there was a huge increase in drugs and crime and hippies were multiplying fast. Also revolutions were starting in Iran and we were in war with Vietnam. In the early 60's we had the Bay of Pigs which we had rebels of Cuba try and attack them back and was set up by the U.S. government but we didn't want them to find out. Then there was a Cuban missile crisis where Cuba was gaining nuclear weapons from Russia and has to range to hit everywhere but Washington area. Then JFK was assassinated when he was campaigning again for another year to run then was shot and killed so Lyndon B. Johnson was oath into office and was completing what JFK was trying to complete in office. After he did that he wanted to help out the poor so they can get jobs and other things. Then we had the civil rights movement and MLK Jr. was happening then we went to war with Vietnam was Johnson's idea.

8. 8. Modern day Connections
This song matters even more than when it was first made because were doing things worse and worse to the planet we live on like polluting the air and chopping down trees more than ever. People now days have gone mad and are trying to do damage to planet earth even more than before. I don't think the song or life evolve after this song came out because no one probably heard it unless you like system of a down, but i can't say there isn't a hand full of people who are trying like making hybrid cars and trying to find alternative fuel. In the past people had giant towers producing smoke on very block and cars were everywhere burning fuel, and now we are cutting down on burning so much fuel and trying to run off mainly electric fuel.
