Global Warming: Car Exhaust Victor Lo Alex Leong Eric Zhou Chris Cheung 6 th period Coolest Person Ever!
Car exhaust is a major problem in our society, cars as a source of transportation is important in our lives yet the waste product of this source can endanger life on Earth, including us. THESIS

What is car exhaust?

Car exhaust is the waste product of a car. Car exhaust is a global problem that can really affect the lives of humanity.

How is car exhaust made?

Gasoline and diesel fuels have many hydrocarbons, By burning hydrocarbons with oxygen it creates power for the car to run but also car exhaust which is harmful to our world.

Fuel + Air Hydrocarbons + Nitrogen Oxides + Carbon Dioxide + Carbon Monoxide + water which is car exhaust

What country produces the most car exhaust?

The United States produces the most car exhaust.

Car Exhaust Presently Car exhaust is still a big problem in many countries but it is very bad in China who has the second most cars in the world mainly because cars are a symbol of wealth in China and because of China’s massive population. One example would be in Shanghai, a major city in China, where car exhaust causes about 80 percent of the air pollution they have there. China is trying to fix this though. Massive steps have been taken in upgrading mass-transit and cars have been taken off the streets every day. The United States has the worst car exhaust pollution for sure. They have the most cars therefore creating the most car exhaust. Strides have been taken in cleaning up the mess though. Public transportation and carpooling is all encouraged and different cars have been made which don’t spew as much crud into the air.
How is Car Exhaust a Global Problem? Car exhaust is all around the world. Many countries have changed from their bicycles and legs to cars. Now many people do not choose to walk a few blocks or ride a bicycle. Cars have modernized the world yet has made vulnerable our Earth and ourselves. Car exhaust is really dangerous to our environment and our habitat. Car exhaust can pollute the air changing our oxygen intake into a mixture of nasty toxins and chemicals. Pollution affects the air all around us. Now so many areas have cars that pollution is reaching an immense level. By making our world dirty, soon our planet can not be inhabited by humans and the movie Wall-e is going to be a reality. Car exhaust remains in our planet for about a decade before they break down. Car exhaust also affects the O-zone layer. The Ozone layer protects Earth’s living organism, which includes us, from dangerous radioactive light which can eliminate life on Earth. Car Exhaust destroys our precious layer of O-3 which allows dangerous things to seep through. Since the Ozone layer is around the whole Earth, the disappearance of the layer is harmful to all people on this planet regardless of our skin, ethnicity, and nationality.
How Car Exhaust Affect Us

Car exhaust is toxic for our lives

There are many hydrocarbons in car exhaust. Hydrocarbons can cause a ground-level ozone or smog. The ozone irritates the eyes and affects the respiratory system harmfully including the lungs. Many hydrocarbons are toxic to human health and many can cause cancer.

The main toxin in car exhaust is Benzene. Benzene is very harmful to human health. Besides from car exhaust, Benzene is also found in cigarettes, pesticides, gasoline, and chemical spills in factories. Benzene is harmful to human health because it is related to the development of leukemia and lymphoma. It also affects blood cells maturation and can block bone marrows ability to create blood cells .

Just a little more than 1 week ago, President Obama touted a plan that made automakers build cars and trucks that get at least 35.5 miles to the gallon and reduced gas emissions. Obama asked investors to put in $1300 per new vehicle until 2016. The investments would be paid off by not spending as much money at the pump. In Colorado, Lightning Hybrids announced that it will debut it L4 model, that has reached 100 miles per gallon fuel efficiency based on a biodiesel-electric hybrid engine. The LH4 sports a 90 horsepower, 2-cycle engine, and will be available at retail by 2010 with a price tag of $39,000-$59,000. Lightning Hybrids is a competitor in the X Prize 100 mpg competition sponsored by Progressive, that will award a $10 million prize to the company that first develops a 100 mpg vehicle. Less gas used equals less car exhaust spewed Many car companies are creating new cars that spews less car exhaust and are more earth friendly like hybrids, electric cars, and many more. New alternatives for gasoline are also used like cooking oils, water, solar, and electricity. Putting A Lid on Car Exhaust
All in All, Should cars still be on the streets just to improve human health but in turn make human life more difficult? If cars are kept what steps should be taken to solve or improve this issue? It’s something we should all think about. Educated Thoughts

To preserve human civilization on Earth and future generations after us, we should all think about our actions right now. Our lives may be easy right now, but soon during the times of our grandchildren, life can be devastating.

Steps should be taken to reduce car exhaust in our world. Here are things that are worth thinking about and even doing.

Riding an alternative source of transportation such as a bicycle, skateboard, Bart and maybe even walking.

If you can’t survive without a car, buy a car that is gas-efficient such as Priuses. Most importantly, buy a car that you need; there is no need to buy a Hummer when you can buy a Toyota 4Runner instead.

Limit the cars that you have and the size of those cars. There is no need to get a van when your family consists of 2-3 members.
