Our goals for tonight...  We will write about and share what we used to do.  We will review and practice talking about and listening to what we used to do.  We will ask questions with use to.  We will survey our classmates about what they used to do.  We will practice our new spelling words for this week.
  3. 3. Then and Now  We have all changed a lot since we were children.  Let’s write about some things we used to like when we were children and what we like now. Then I used to ride my bike when I was a child. I used to eat macaroni and cheese. I used to like the song “The Wheels on the Bus”. I used to live in Robbinsdale, MN. Nicole used to be my best friend when I was a child. Now my best friend is my sister.

I used to live in Robbinsdale.  Now my best friend is my sister. My best friend used to be my neighbor, Nicole.  Share your sentences!  Let’s look together at page 106 in our books.

Here are some examples:We use used to to talk about habitual or regular actions or states in the past that are now finished. I used to have a dog when I was a child. I used to used to do football every weekend but I dont have time now. Did you use to go swimming when you were at school? I didnt use to like action films, but I do now. I never used to like spinach, but I love it now.Important points We can also use would to talk about habitual actions in the past, but not to talk about past states. When I was young I used to go fishing with my father every summer. When I was young I would go fishing with my father every summer. She used to have a house in the country. NOT: She would have a house in the country.
