Catherine Lane Pop Culture Presentation

 1. 1. My
Pop
Culture
Catherine Lane
8a
2. 2. What is Pop Culture?
Pop culture is a generation of popular music, television shows, movies, clothes etc. In some cases stuff that is popular now a days can still be popular in the future.
3. 3. About me…
I have always loved music. And chocolate!
So, it seems that I have a “sweet tooth”!
I can listen to almost anything but POP makes me feel good. It comforts me, excites me, and makes me dance.
In the following presentation I will take you back as far as I can remember.
Do you hear that music?
4. 4. In the beginning…
The first group I listened to was ABBA.
Why?
When I was 3 my Swedish Grandmother brought me and album to introduce me to my heritage.
5. 5. ABBA
I used to love dancing to ABBA in the kitchen with my dad, brother, and sister.
Some of my most favorite songs where “Money Money Money”, “Dancing Queen” and “Mamma Mia”.
6. 6. A Period In Life…
For a while I was obsessed with Disney Channel Stars - Hannah Montana, High School Musical etc.
I laugh at it now because it looks like my worst nightmare!
But back then, these stars influenced the way I dressed and acted.
7. 7. Dancing
Is my
LIFE
Since I was small I have always loved dancing. I dance in my bedroom, my kitchen, in front of the mirror, with the dancers on T.V. etc. One day my dream is to learn the Salsa and other dances that people can only dream of.
8. 8. I love Dancing!!!
9. 9. I love Spinning!!!
10. 10. Classics
Slowly I started discovering old and not so old classics, like Michel Jackson, The Beach Boys, Mel &Kim, and many more.
The beach boys were so far away in the past, but their music reminded me of some of the most beautiful things in life – summer on the beach, parties with friends and summer love.
Mel and Kim healed my broken hearth with a song! It goes like this:
“Don’t you cry, you’ll be fine, You’ll be back on your feet in no time, you’ll be fine, don’t worry. You got hurt, you got hurt, you’re not the first, your hearth aches, it won’t last, it will pass, don’t worry…”
But the next slide I dedicate to the king…
11. 11. The King is dead, long live the King
Ok, he wasn’t the most attractive, and I certainly couldn’t copy his style for I cannot stand white socks in combination with glittery clothes…but he was an amazing person.
I can listen to Dirty Diana all day long and even play an invisible guitar! 
I wish I met him before his plastic surgeries and attempts to become white. His life taught me that you need to be who you are and no matter what you do there is no way to escape from yourself.
12. 12. Britney and Madonna
Hanging our with girls at school I started listening to Britney Spears and Madonna.
Why?
I could sing it! I understood what they were talking about! They were glamorous…
I could dance to it like crazy in my room!
These two are pop icons, they stick out for years, sweeping through music charts, always in vogue…One can be my older sister and the other can be my mom, but they are closer to my music taste than any other singer.
13. 13. Madonna
Madonna… it takes true charisma to be number one for so many years.
She is an average singer, dancer, and actress, and there are prettier girls out there, but her determination to make success made her rich and famous.
I admire her for the hard work and endless transformations! She is always new, as if she reinvents herself!
14. 14. Britney Spears

Britney started very young and became popular too soon for her own good.
 15. 15. At one point she came to a crossroad and experienced a complete meltdown. However, she managed to come back even better.
 16. 16. Britney showed me that no matter what you have to stand up, face your demons and go on with your life.

My I Pod music
The best thing that happened to me was the I Pod I got for my grades. I have all these different folders for different moods. 
Lately, I shift through different styles and artists from Rihanna, T.I, Akon, Beyonce or Flo Rida to Green Day, even Lady Gaga!
17. 17. Rihanna

She introduced me to Pop R&B (rhythm and blues)
 18. 18. You can stay “Under my umbrella ella ella…” was number one hit for singing in the car during long distance drives in America with my family.
 19. 19. I went to see her in concert, and the next thing I knew, I was copying her hair style.

Beyonce

Beyonce is not thin and looks like a real woman. She dresses to attract attention.
 20. 20. No matter what she wears it looks good!
 21. 21. I started wearing tight jeans and nice dresses because of her.

My Fashion When I Was Young

When I was young I wasn’t really able to choose what to wear, so I just stuck with what I had.
 22. 22. Most of my clothes when I was young came from Gap and Zara.

For me Grease was heaven!
I loved it so much!!!
