  1. 1. FREE Employment Resources and Services at the Monroe County Public Library Presented by Austin Stroud

Introduction • Austin Stroud – Instructional Designer at the Monroe County Public Library – Adjunct Faculty at Ivy Tech Community College – From the area (grew up in Mitchell, just south of here) – Studied labor studies, education/instructional systems technology, and library science at Indiana University Pepe Biggie Lily

Technology Programs  Programs offered on a variety of topics, including: Microsoft Office 2010 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), computer basics, email, Internet, open source software, web design, Zinio (downloadable magazines), Learn4Life (free 6-week online classes), OverDrive (eBooks/downloadable audiobooks), organizing/editing photos, online marketing, social networking (Facebook, Twitter, etc.), online job searching, video editing…always adding new things!  Find a current schedule here:  Pamphlets handed out contain September-November programs
  4. 4. Job Search Programs  Bring your printed resume, interesting job listings, or your tough questions for one-to-one consultations with HR and employment professionals. Get advice on possible interview questions and presentation tips, and find resources for your job search right at the library. Please register or drop in at any time during the program. Bring all relevant work history.  6-8 PM – 3rd Thursday each month (September 19, October 17, November 21) – Program Room 2B  This information is on the back of the “adult programs” brochure handed out
  5. 5. One-on-One Technology Assistance  The library provides FREE, one hour, one-on-one technology help sessions for those that prefer to learn individually. Basic computing topics can be covered, such as Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, downloading eBooks, email, etc.  You may sign up by calling 812-349-3228 or by filling out a form on the library’s website:
  6. 6. Online Library Resources  Learn4Life – Free, six week courses with instructors and classmates from around the world. You may take five courses in a calendar year (resets every January 1). You must have a library card. Find out more at:  Job Search Guide – A collection of books, websites, and local resources to help with your job search: Search  Job Search Collection – The library has a large collection of job search books. These are near the VITAL office on the 2nd floor. Stop by the reference desk to find out where.
