Genesis of the Pen Pal Program For Tolerance <ul><li>Program was inspired by Elie Wiesel’s </li></ul><ul><li>Foundation For Humanity and The </li></ul><ul><li>Conference For International Understanding </li></ul><ul><li>Sponsored by this organization. </li></ul><ul><li>Program was developed in response to </li></ul><ul><li>the rise in Anti-Semitism and Anti-Israel </li></ul><ul><li>sentiments in the U.S. and around the world </li></ul>
  3. 3. What is the Pen Pal Program For Tolerance? <ul><li>The Pen Pal Program is an educational </li></ul><ul><li>Correspondence between Israelis and </li></ul><ul><li>Americans. Through their regular </li></ul><ul><li>Correspondence, participants learn </li></ul><ul><li>tolerance and respect for different cultures </li></ul><ul><li>and religions. </li></ul>

How Does The Pen Pal Program For Tolerance Work? <ul><li>Program Developer and President, Marcy </li></ul><ul><li>Levitt will give presentations to various </li></ul><ul><li>communities in their schools, outreach </li></ul><ul><li>centers, synagogues, churches, and </li></ul><ul><li>Mosques in both Israel and the U.S. </li></ul><ul><li>The presentations may be made in person </li></ul><ul><li>or via DVD and video conferencing </li></ul>

How The Pen Pal Program Works continued.. <ul><li>Following a presentation, once a group of </li></ul><ul><li>participants has been established, these </li></ul><ul><li>participants will be paired with Israeli </li></ul><ul><li>or American counterparts to start the Pen </li></ul><ul><li>Pal Program! </li></ul>
  6. 6. Methods of Correspondence <ul><li>Postal mail </li></ul><ul><li>IM </li></ul><ul><li>E-mail </li></ul><ul><li>Various social networking sites such as </li></ul><ul><li>FaceBook and MySpace </li></ul><ul><li>DVD’s </li></ul><ul><li>Youtube Videos </li></ul><ul><li>Websites </li></ul>

Tolerance Achieved! <ul><li>Through their regular correspondence, </li></ul><ul><li>participants will learn to challenge </li></ul><ul><li>misconceptions and learn about the various </li></ul><ul><li>Cultures and religions. This will increase </li></ul><ul><li>Tolerance and understanding of the Jewish </li></ul><ul><li>People,Israel, the American people, and the </li></ul><ul><li>United States. </li></ul>
  8. 8. The Future of the Pen Pal Program <ul><li>Participants will be encouraged to share </li></ul><ul><li>their knowledge with other participants </li></ul><ul><li>and their peers. As awareness, </li></ul><ul><li>Understanding, and tolerance grows, this </li></ul><ul><li>may lead to a desire to visit the U.S or Israel </li></ul><ul><li>And support these countries and their </li></ul><ul><li>People. </li></ul>
