storyline and plot in teen drama
1.
2. One of the oppositions portrayed through the clip can be shown by ‘mise-en-scene’ where the girls
room is seen to be clean, pink and very girly and the boys room is seen to be messy, dirty and
unorganised. This fits in with the classic stereotype that girls are better at cleaning than boys.
Here also from ‘mise-en-scene’ the boys are shown to driving a plain and normal 1950’ s styled car
(which is the same era the film is set in) whereas the girls are driving are driving a convertible – a car
that ultimately screams ‘Barbie’ and girly; since Barbie only ever drives a pink convertible.
3. Through the use of camerawork it is identified that the locals (seen on the left) all hang out in large
groups of friends and the outsider (seen on the right) has no one really but herself. This shows the
vast difference the outsider doesn’t really know anyone.
The different use of colour also portrays a stereotype – that boys use blue and girls use
pink. This shows a stereotype that boys and girls are supposed to like and wear certain
colours.
