The Big Picture- Salvation/Justification <ul><li>How does the relationship between Jews & Gentile affect spiritual gifts? </li></ul><ul><li>Are Gentiles in the New Testament saved by a different means than the Jews in the Old? </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 1- Gentiles are condemned and under the wrath of God (Romans 1:20) </li></ul><ul><li>Gentiles can understand there is a God but they make a conscious choice not to worship God but to worship His creation instead </li></ul>

The Big Picture- Salvation/Justification <ul><li>Chapter 2- Jews are guiltier than Gentiles because God has revealed Himself much more fully in the Law of Moses (Romans 2:12-13) </li></ul><ul><li>Both Gentiles and Jews are equal in terms of condemnation </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 3- What good is having the Law then? </li></ul><ul><li>We are not only helpless in our sin we are hopeless (Romans 3:21-22) </li></ul>

The Big Picture- Salvation/Justification <ul><li>Chapter 4- Weren’t people in the OT saved by keeping the Law of God? </li></ul><ul><li>Abraham was saved because he believed what God said (Genesis 15:6/Romans 4:3) </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 5- So what is so special about Jesus? </li></ul><ul><li>Sin came from one person (Adam) and salvation comes from One person (Jesus) </li></ul>

The Big Picture- Sanctification <ul><li>We are saved by faith alone, but how are we sanctified? </li></ul><ul><li>Galatians 3:2-3 “ I would like to learn just one thing from you: Did you receive the Spirit by observing the law, or by believing what you heard? Are you so foolish? After beginning with the Spirit, are you now trying to attain your goal by human effort? ” </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 6- We can not live the same we did before salvation (Romans 6:3,4) </li></ul>

The Big Picture- Sanctification <ul><li>Chapter 7- So how can we live a new life? </li></ul><ul><li>Paul gives the example of marriage </li></ul><ul><li>The second is that law keeping does not work </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 8- The answer to the problem is the Holy Spirit (Romans 8:11) </li></ul><ul><li>The Holy Spirit is at work in the life of the believer </li></ul>
  7. 7. The Big Picture- Dispensations <ul><li>Chapters 9 , 10, and 11 are NOT a parenthesis </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 9- What went wrong for Israel not to believe in Jesus as the Messiah? (Romans 9:6,7) </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 10- People still have a decision to make </li></ul><ul><li>Gentiles are being saved because they trusted in Jesus by faith and Jews who are working to keep the law can not keep the Law </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 11- So is it all over for Israel? </li></ul><ul><li>Jewish hardening is only partial & only temporary </li></ul>

The Big Picture- Application <ul><li>Chapter 12- The first application regarding our salvation is the exercise of spiritual gifts </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 13- Godly living in an ungodly world </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 14 to 15: 12- All about the relationship strong and the weak believers </li></ul><ul><li>Spiritual gifts are strengths that allow us to minister to those who are weak </li></ul><ul><li>Chapter 16- Personal encouragement and greetings to individuals </li></ul>

Spiritual Gifts in the Book of Romans <ul><li>Spiritual gifts must be a topic for believers since they come after the chapters on salvation </li></ul><ul><li>Spiritual gifts come after the chapters on sanctification, so they are not natural abilities </li></ul><ul><li>Spiritual gifts come after the dispensational chapter 9-11 , so gifts deal with getting us to minister to other people </li></ul><ul><li>Spiritual gifts are about relationships with other people in the Body of Christ </li></ul>
  10. 10. Concluding Thoughts… <ul><li>Spiritual gifts are all about God (Chapter 1-11) </li></ul><ul><li>Spiritual gifts are about people (Chapter 12-16) </li></ul><ul><li>Spiritual gifts are entirely different than how the secular world thinks or acts </li></ul>
  11. 11. To God Be the Glory <ul><li>To God be the glory great things He hath done! </li></ul><ul><li>So loved He the world that He gave us His Son, </li></ul><ul><li>Who yielded His life an atonement for sin, </li></ul><ul><li>And opened the life gate that all may go in </li></ul>
