The evolution of programme management - insights from an international perspective 5 ® A programme – various definitions, not that different, rather convergent • A programme is a temporary structure of interrelated programme components that provides advantages of being managed together, contributes to / achieves programme objectives and realises benefits (ISO CD 21503) • A programme is a group of related projects managed in a coordinated way to obtain benefits and control not available from managing them individually (PMI) • A programme is temporary, flexible organization created to coordinate, direct and oversee the implementation of a set of related projects and activities in order to deliver outcomes and benefits related to the organization´s strategic objectives. The evolution of programme management - insights from an international perspective 14 ® 2nd edition of Gower Handbook of Programme Management (May ‘16) Editors: Dennis Lock and Reinhard Wagner Whilst the 1st edition focused methodology, the new edition will look at practices from various sectors and specific programme-related aspects including but not limited to aspects like the governance, organisation, culture, lifecycle, processes, methods, tools and competences. Some of the sectors: Aircraft, Automotive, Aviation, Construction, Humanitarian Aid, IT, Transportation 50 authors from 14 countries on 5 continents
