7. Considerations
• Readiness of different units
• Do we have the ability to
debrief everywhere that we
survey?
• How much improvement can we
support?
• Are we ready to let the units
lead?
I come with a passion for teamwork and team culture. I have worked in the hotel industry at a number of 4 and 5 diamond hotels, and was responsible for over 1000 room nights, per night over the 2010 Olympic Games. If the culture was toxic, and there were situations where it was, we could not be successful as a team.I moved over to healthcare because not only have I seen family and friends in the hospital, I have been a patient as well. I have had some not so great experiences, but I have also had some wonderful experiences. I wanted to take my skills from over 15 years of ensuring the guests have the most memorable experience; to healthcare. So here I amThis session is mostly a discussion, so please feel free to questions and add your input.
We have a few ways to observe how culture is working within a team. We have done the Safety Attitudes Questionnaire with 14 hospitals across BC. Here are a few sample questions that we can use with your team, should you decide to do a survey.
This is a summary of the percentage of OR staff reporting high levels of communication with other OR staff. There is quite the gap in perception. How do you think this relates to your team? After seeing their siteresults, the Surgerydept head at St. Pauls wrote a letter to the anesthesia and nursing teams basically outlining that this isn’t acceptable, and we need to improve this, and we will improve it. What do you think of this?
