  1. 1. Saving PowerPoint Slide Shows as PDF HandoutsWhen creating a document that contains images, saving as a PDF can have substantialcompression value. This is also true with PowerPoint presentations. When saving adocument that contains only text, pdf is many times larger. Instead, it is suggested that yousave as an .rtf to ensure compatibility to all students. The true advantage of PDF is that PDFreaders are small in size and freely available. Microsoft has a free PDF converter Addin thatconverts files to PDF. If you do not have this installed, you may request assistance with thisfrom IT.Example: PPT file size = 770 kb • Converted to 3 slide handouts using Adobe Professional (File Print) file size = 48.9 kb • Converted to 3 slide handouts using Microsoft PDF Addin (File Save As, minimum size selected) = 99.3Converting to PDF with Microsoft PDF Addin1. Open the presentation for which you want to print handouts.2. Click the Microsoft Office Button , Click Save As

Click the Options button.5. In the Page Setup, click the arrow under Publish What, and then select the handout layout option that you want from the list. The Handouts (3 Slides Per Page) format provides lines for the audience to take notes.6. Select Document structure tags for accessibility and then click OK. 7. In the File name box, enter a new name for the presentation, or do nothing to accept the suggested file name. 8. Click Save.
