Parent Moodle Night

  1. 1. Welcome to Parent Moodle Night! Thank you for coming. Please sign-in and take a handout.

Our Goals for Tonight <ul><li>You will learn how to login to Moodle and become familiar with your child’s teachers’ websites. </li></ul><ul><li>You will learn about Mathscore, our new online math program. </li></ul><ul><li>You will learn how to navigate through our district and school websites and how to email a teacher. </li></ul>

What is Moodle? <ul><li>Moodle is a web application that educators can use to create online learning sites. </li></ul><ul><li>Moodle enables students to access course information via the internet. </li></ul><ul><li>Each teacher who uses Moodle maintains a website for their classroom. </li></ul>
  4. 4. On a Moodle website, you may find: <ul><li>Classroom assignments </li></ul><ul><li>Classroom calendar </li></ul><ul><li>Links to relevant websites </li></ul><ul><li>Student grades </li></ul><ul><li>Video Clips </li></ul><ul><li>Teacher notes and/or PowerPoint presentations </li></ul>
  5. 5. Example <ul><li>I will now show you my Moodle Page to give you an idea of what you may see and how to navigate around the page. </li></ul>
  6. 6. Your Turn <ul><li>Following the Directions on your handout, login to Moodle as your son or daughter. </li></ul><ul><li>Once you are logged in, you should see a list of your child’s teachers who have a Moodle page. </li></ul><ul><li>Click on a teacher’s name to enter their Moodle page. </li></ul><ul><li>Let me know if you have any questions. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Mathscore <ul><li>Somerset recently adopted Mathscore, a wonderful online Math program. </li></ul><ul><li>Students can login from any computer that has internet access 24 hours a day, seven days a week. </li></ul>
  8. 8. Mathscore is Great for Students <ul><li>Students work at their own level and at their own pace. </li></ul><ul><li>Students get immediate feedback so they do not repeat mistakes. </li></ul><ul><li>Students earn “trophies” and points and special titles. </li></ul><ul><li>Students master essential Math standards which helps them be more successful in the classroom. </li></ul>
  9. 9. Requirement <ul><li>All teachers will begin using Mathscore in their classroom by the end of the year. </li></ul><ul><li>Requirements will vary, you should check with your child’s Math teacher for specific requirements. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Demonstration <ul><li>The directions for logging in to Mathscore are on your handout. </li></ul><ul><li>You can follow along while I walk you through the website as a student. </li></ul><ul><li>The website is: </li></ul>

Your Turn <ul><li>Login to Mathscore using the directions on your handout. </li></ul><ul><li>If your child is in my class, their password begins with so00_____, otherwise it should just be their lunch number. </li></ul><ul><li>If you have any trouble logging in, let me know and I can look-up their username and/or password. </li></ul>

Emailing a Teacher <ul><li>Email is a great way to communicate with your child’s teachers. </li></ul><ul><li>To look-up a teacher from the Somerset webpage: </li></ul><ul><ul><li>Select “TEACHERS”. </li></ul></ul><ul><ul><li>Click on the email address that is listed next to their name. </li></ul></ul>
  13. 13. Your Turn <ul><li>Go to the Somerset website. The address is on your handout. </li></ul><ul><li>Find one of your child’s teachers. </li></ul><ul><li>Click on their email address. </li></ul><ul><li>This will bring up a blank message. If you would like, tell them one thing you liked about their Moodle site.  </li></ul>
