Luxurious and decadent yet simple and easy to prepare, chocolate pie is an
unforgettable dessert treat that is sure to impress family and friends. Make this
for a special or romantic occasion or for regular days to make lunch or dinner
more memorable. You can make this gourmet cooking recipe with a premade
piecrust that can be bought from the grocery or pastry shop, or make your own
piecrust. Top the chocolate pie with some whipped cream or chocolate shavings
or sprinkle powdered cocoa on top of the cream. Chocolate pie is also delicious
served with some vanilla ice cream on the side as well as with,
cookies, crackers or biscuits. Serve this with some coffee, tea or liqueur to
complete the experience.

To make the filling, you only need a few simple ingredients that are readily
available in most pantries, including dark chocolate, milk, white sugar, and eggs.
Choose high quality dark chocolate for best results. Melt the chocolate using a
heavy bottom saucepan over low medium heat, making sure to stir it constantly
with a spatula so as to avoid clumping and sticking.

If you are using frozen pie dough, allow it to come to room temperature
first before use. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface and use a rolling
pin to spread the dough to fit an 8-inch round pie dish. It should overlap the dish
by about two inches, so roll the dough about 10 or 11 inches so that you can trim
the edges after fitting it into the pie plate. Prick the bottom and the side of the
shell with a fork to allow even baking. Chill the shell for about 30 minutes while
you preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Place the baking sheet on the middle rack.
