  1. 1. Green Swamps A swamp is a wet land that is full of plants. Many swamps located next torivers or coasts. The water in swamps does not drain well, so that makes theground in swamps are wet and covering with water. There are two main typesof swamps, Forest swamps and Shrub swamps. Forest swamps are dominatedby the trees. Shrub swamps are swamps that are dominated by grass, algae andmany types of shrubs. The different between Forest swamps and Shrub swampsare that Forest swamps has lots of trees and covered by the layer of old leaves,but the Shrub swamps mostly have shrubs in them rather than the trees. Bothswamps provide places and homes for animals to live. The causes of swamps are dry lands that are under the water because thereare rivers or lakes near the swamps. Many swamps occur along large rivers.Other swamps occur on the shore of the large lakes. Swamps exist in manykinds of climates. The swamp climates are usually warm, humid, sticky and wet.The temperature is about 15 – 35 degree centigrade or 15 – 35 degree celsius.The water in the swamps may be fresh water, brackish water and sea water. There are many swamps located around the world. The largest swamp in theworld is the Amazon River floodplain. There are many animals and plants thatlive in swamps. Most of the animals that live in swamps are dangerous,alligator, crocodile, snakes, black bear and scorpion. There are many types ofplants that live in swamp too, mangroves, fern, sea oat and others, but swampshave very few herbaceous plants because there are little or no sunlight.
