Comets, asteroids, meteors, and moons

  2. 2. Comets <ul><li>Comets are Small, balls of ice, gas, and dust that orbit around the Sun. </li></ul><ul><li>Comets are made up of four parts the Nucleus, the Coma, the Hydrogen Envelope, and the tail. </li></ul>
  3. 3. Asteroids <ul><li>Large remains of rocks left from the formation of the Solar system </li></ul><ul><li>Orbit around the sun </li></ul><ul><li>Most asteroids are found in the Asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter. </li></ul>
  4. 4. Asteroids <ul><li>Asteroids are not considered planets, but can have moons. </li></ul><ul><li>One Example of this is the asteroid Ida and its moon Dactyl. </li></ul>
  5. 5. The Moon <ul><li>Earth Has one Moon that is believed to have been created from an impact with an asteroid </li></ul><ul><li>The average distance between the Earth and Moon is 238,855 miles(384,400 Km) </li></ul>
  6. 6. Phases of The Moon <ul><li>The Moon has eight phases that it goes through </li></ul><ul><li>The first phase of the moon is the New Moon, this occurs when the moon is between the earth and the sun </li></ul>
  7. 7. Phases of The Moon <ul><li>The Gibbous occur when the sunlight is slightly more than half or slightly less than half </li></ul><ul><li>The Quarter phases happen when the Moon is in line that the sun only reflect off half of the moon </li></ul>
  8. 8. Phases of The Moon <ul><li>Lastly there is the Full Moon, this occurs when the Sun, the Earth, and the Moon are in perfect alignment giving it its fully illuminated glow </li></ul>
  9. 9. The Moons Orbit <ul><li>The Moon Revolves Around the Earth Once a month </li></ul><ul><li>The Moons orbit effect the tides in oceans and the motion and orbit of the earth. </li></ul>
  10. 10. What If the Earth had Two Moons? <ul><li>The Tides would be effected and it would cause constant Tsunamis and flooding </li></ul><ul><li>Also I believe it would effect the orbit of earth and possibly changing the seasons </li></ul>
