  2. 2. What is SalmonellosisSalmonella is a bacteria which can cause Salmonellosis, a type of foodpoisoning . It affects the stomach and the intestines. In more serious cases it mayeven enter the lymph tracts, which carry water and blood. The symptomsare diarrhea, headaches, stomach cramps, nausea and vomiting, and fever. Thereare about 40,000 cases reported in the U.S each year. It may even causedehydration.
  3. 3. Risk factorsChildren are also at risk of getting more severe cases. Most People tend to get itduring the summer time. Children have a higher risk of getting salmonellosis.Older people and People who have a weak immune system . Even though it maysound silly but people can also be carriers of this virus. They may not showsymptoms but they have it and may or may not pass it down. These people needa surgery to remove it.
  4. 4. DehydrationDehydration may happen why while having this by throwing up andconstantly having diarrhea. When a person gets severely dehydrated it isdangerous because the cells needs water for the body to function. It mayeven cause a person to go into shock.
  5. 5. Where can it be found It can be found in poultry, eggs, milk, and meat. It can also be found on turtles, rodents such as hamsters and mice and birds. However when eating any of the above foods it may not taste or smell different It can also be found on cats, hamsters and sometimes dogs..
  6. 6. What are the causes? The causes for this may be not washing your hands thoroughly before you eat, eating raw eggs, eating food that has been contaminated with salmonella, and people not washing their hands before handling your food. It then travels to the small intestine
  7. 7. Cases of Salmonella recalls in theU.S Some foods that have been recalled for containing sa past include: beef jerky peanut butter ground beef products chef salad containing poultry.
  8. 8. Is it Deadly? It is deadly when the bacteria leaves the intestines and goes into the blood stream, but it is very rare. For most people it tends to go away in a few days without any antibiotics unless it has gone into the blood stream. People with weak immune systems have the rick of getting a more serious case where the salmonella goes into the blood stream and the antibodies are not produced well or they may have fewer antibodies.. About 400 people people in the U.S die from this every year. But it is not very deadly.
  9. 9. Why is it important?This is important to know because you may never know what you eatmay include salmonella, even though it doesnt look or taste anydifferent. Also most cases are reported in the summer so instead ofbeing out with you friends you may end up staying at home throwing upor in the bathroom if you don’t take a few precautions.
  10. 10. How can it be prevented? It can be prevented by cooking food thoroughly, before eating or handling food , washing cookin them, do not eat under cooked eggs and keep ra from fruits, vegetables and cooked food.
