  2. 2. WHAT THESE STATS MEAN:  BBC Radio are still dominating the UK Radio industry  Commercial sector is becoming more stable as they start to use social media and visual platforms to attract listeners  Proliferation of mobile technology is changing the ways consumers can access radio. Ben Cooper’s mission to attract “smartphone teens” by making Radio 1 a multi- platform brand using social media and visual content is paying off. Radio 1 has 10 million listeners per week and 32% of young adults listen via a smartphone or tablet.  Absolute have increased their listenership by 300,000 since being acquired by the Bauer conglomerate in July 2013. More stable funding as part of a conglomerate will draw advertisers to the brand but as well as this, Bauer will be less reliant on income from advertisers as other parts of the conglomerate will protect them.
