  3. 3. <ul><li>Founded in Greeley in 1974; in Larimer County since 2003 </li></ul><ul><li>Fort Collins and Loveland offices serve more than 2,000 Larimer County residents each year </li></ul><ul><li>In Larimer County, 2/3 of clients are male, 1/3 female </li></ul><ul><li>21% of clients are under age 21 </li></ul><ul><li>71% of clients are Caucasian, 25% Latino, 4% African-American, Native American or other </li></ul>About Island Grove
  4. 4. <ul><li>1 in 15 Larimer County adults acknowledge chronic alcohol use; 1 in 5 admit to binge drinking in the past month </li></ul><ul><li>In Poudre Schools, more than 1/2 of all high school students have consumed alcohol in the past month, and just under 1/3 have used marijuana </li></ul><ul><li>The number of individuals seeking treatment for meth addiction more than doubled between 2003 and 2005, from 122 to 264 individuals </li></ul>Our Community in Need

More Community Needs <ul><li>Two-thirds of those with substance abuse issues also have history of depression or other mental illness </li></ul><ul><li>15,800 Larimer County residents needing substance abuse/mental health treatment are not receiving help </li></ul><ul><li>Larimer County’s domestic violence shelters receive a total of more than 2,000 crisis calls each year </li></ul><ul><li>Larimer County officials make more than 500 arrests for domestic violence each year </li></ul>

Changing Values <ul><li>Our treatment models emphasize: </li></ul><ul><li>Treating self and others with dignity and respect </li></ul><ul><li>Accepting responsibility for the consequences of behavior </li></ul><ul><li>Identifying maladaptive coping mechanisms </li></ul><ul><li>Finding alternative coping strategies </li></ul><ul><li>Making connection between identity and behavior </li></ul>

Changing Lives <ul><li>We use evidence-based methods and curriculum and are licensed by the Colorado Alcohol and Drug Abuse Division </li></ul><ul><li>We offer intensive treatment involving family education and recovery skill building </li></ul><ul><li>By the end of treatment, 80% of clients achieve reduction in drug and alcohol use and 60-80% experience improved relationships, education/employment and physical health </li></ul><ul><li>Our treatment promotes awareness of spiritual needs </li></ul>

Changing the Community <ul><li>We strengthen the community by strengthening individuals and families, helping them become contributing members </li></ul><ul><li>Our services reduce the need for emergency medical care, homeless shelters and incarceration </li></ul><ul><li>Every dollar spent on substance abuse treatment and recovery saves the community $4 to $12 in emergency and related interventions (California Drug and Alcohol Treatment Assessment) </li></ul>

Faith-Based Treatment <ul><li>Working to identify and implement faith-based treatment models with demonstrated success in improving lives </li></ul><ul><li>Faith-based treatments will be available as an option for all our clients </li></ul><ul><li>Faith-based treatments will meet the same evidence-based standards as our other treatments </li></ul>

We can’t do it alone. Partnership opportunities include:

Treatment Scholarships <ul><li>Cost is the primary barrier to treatment for many individuals, even with our sliding fee scale </li></ul><ul><li>In 2006, 75% of our Larimer County clients earned less than 125% of the poverty level </li></ul><ul><li>Colorado ranks 49th in the nation for public funding of substance abuse treatment </li></ul><ul><li>A donation of $180 will pay half the cost of 12 treatment sessions for one individual </li></ul>

Change for Life Drive <ul><li>Funds raised provide general support for Island Grove’s services in your community </li></ul><ul><li>Congregation members take home a Change for Life container and return the container filled with spare change </li></ul><ul><li>Change for Life drive can take place during any 4-week period convenient for your congregation </li></ul>
  14. 14. Volunteer Opportunities <ul><li>Volunteer opportunities for individuals and groups include: </li></ul><ul><li>Clerical work </li></ul><ul><li>Tech support </li></ul><ul><li>Fundraising activities </li></ul>

Community Presentation <ul><li>Inviting us to give a presentation will help your organization: </li></ul><ul><li>Become informed about issues of substance abuse and domestic violence in Larimer County </li></ul><ul><li>Learn ways that they as an organization can help address these issues (e.g., sponsoring treatment, volunteering) </li></ul><ul><li>Connect with a resource available to them or others they know who are seeking help with substance abuse and related life issues </li></ul>

Prayer Support <ul><li>For our ongoing effectiveness in changing lives </li></ul><ul><li>That our clients end destructive thoughts and behaviors and live the lives for which they were created </li></ul><ul><li>That all those facing substance abuse, domestic violence and related issues in Larimer County acknowledge their need for help and find effective treatment </li></ul><ul><li>That the faith community will be a light to those struggling with these life issues, compassionately pointing the way to lasting change </li></ul>
