  2. 2. Task 1 <ul><li>Study the environment and materials from your own perspectives and experiences. If you work in a pair, you can give joint comments. If you in some part have very different experiences, we would like to know both. So, there is no need to find a consensus!   </li></ul><ul><li>Although the focus is in Europe, there are global issues as well. You can comment from that perspective.   </li></ul><ul><li>Answer the task, you choose. </li></ul>

  4. 4. Students comments 1 <ul><li>The benefit of studying on e-learning environment is that it allows students to study on their own time. We liked the interactive idea of individuals building their own definition of diversity and being able to share this information within a forum discussion. Also, the information about music and drama gives teachers a creative opportunity to include the theme of diversity into the curriculum. </li></ul><ul><li>We faced many challenges when dealing with the e-learning environment; the website was difficult to navigate, the task was not clearly defined and there were grammatical mistakes in the portfolio. Although the idea of the step-by-step process was interesting, it did not work correctly so it became confusing. In addition we the meaning of the appetizer was unclear . </li></ul>

Students comments 1 <ul><li>We found some of the readings to be a bit repetitive and boring; the idea of cultural competence was clear from the beginning. </li></ul><ul><li>As we previously stated, we think the length of some of the readings were not necessary. </li></ul><ul><li>It took us about two hours to complete one task. The majority of the time was spent trying to log in and looking for the location of the task. </li></ul>

What are the benefits studying on e-learning environment? </li></ul><ul><li>- That you do not have travel time </li></ul><ul><li>- You can learn from your home </li></ul><ul><li>- You can learn from people all over the world </li></ul><ul><li>2. What are the challenges, weak points? </li></ul><ul><li>- You do not get to know your teacher </li></ul><ul><li>- You need to be good with computers </li></ul><ul><li>- You need to be able to write and reed in the common language </li></ul><ul><li>- Your dependant on the server on which the site is located </li></ul><ul><li>- There is not resource or reference list. It makes plagiarism very easy. </li></ul>
  7. 7. Students comments 2 <ul><li>3. Are the contents in European diversity theme relevant, interesting? </li></ul><ul><li>- It feels like you do not really go in to the depth of the subjects. You just scrape the surface. But maybe that is because it is just I pilot program. </li></ul><ul><li>- It seems interesting but diversity is not just art based. How about the other subjects? </li></ul><ul><li>- Diversity it self is a relevant theme. But it does not just consists of opinions of teachers. There also has been much research on it. Were can I find this or a reference list? The resource bank is very small. </li></ul>

What would you like to add, cut off? </li></ul><ul><li>- A resources list with actual books on it. </li></ul><ul><li>- More opinions of the students(dialogue)(like a chat or forum per subject) </li></ul><ul><li>- Texts by power-point presentations, just pictures is not enough. </li></ul><ul><li>- More subjects not just art </li></ul><ul><li>- More tasks that require more than just the experience of the student. What if the student does not have any experience? </li></ul>

You can share ideas and have various point of views from another cultures. </li></ul><ul><li>The challenge is to make the sites as clear and easy to use as possible. This particular site was a bit confusing. The contents of the material was ok, but it could be outlined/organized better. </li></ul><ul><li>Relevant and interesting. The topic of multiculturalism is very current. </li></ul><ul><li>We would like to add some colours and pictures to the site to make it more interesting. </li></ul>
  10. 10. Students comments 4 <ul><li>The most important benefit of e-learning is that the students can decide on their own, when they are studying. The student is not dependent on the attendance of a course or a lecture and can study at home whenever he wants. The student can also decide how long and with which kind of materials he wants to study. Because of this the student is may be more motivated to study and leaning is more like “fun” than like “force”. </li></ul>
  11. 11. Students comments 4 <ul><li>The main idea of the website is very good. The materials are very interesting and well constructed if you see them separated. But the whole system lacks some kind of logic, because it is not very easy to find the right steps and to see the connection between the different materials. An introduction in the beginning of the different steps would make it easier for the student to work on them, because he knows what to deal with. </li></ul>
  12. 12. Students comments 4 <ul><li>The subjects are in general very useful, but we have already met this issues and it was not all new information for us. The materials contain the basic and most important information. </li></ul><ul><li>Some texts are very long, what not really is a problem, but it is a little bit confusing, when after spending a lot of time for reading you can not use the information from the text for answering the following task. </li></ul>

What are the benefits studying on e-learning environment? </li></ul><ul><li>- There are opinions and viewpoints from all over the world </li></ul><ul><li>- You can study when ever you want </li></ul><ul><li>- You can study where ever you want </li></ul><ul><li>- Giving feedback can be easier than face to face </li></ul><ul><li>2. What are the challenges, weak points? </li></ul><ul><li>- They can be unclear or hard to understand (layout of the webpage for instance..) </li></ul><ul><li>- What about the technical difficulties? </li></ul><ul><li>- Does it motivate the students to study? Are students committed? </li></ul><ul><li>- How do teachers evaluate student’s learning? </li></ul>

Are the contents in European diversity theme relevant, interesting? </li></ul><ul><li>- Themes are interesting especially the ones that concern other cultures or personal experiences </li></ul><ul><li>- Easily there is too much irrelevant information or the information is spread </li></ul><ul><li>- If some parts do not interest you, you can skip them and choose what you personally want to study </li></ul><ul><li>4. What would you like to add, cut off? </li></ul><ul><li>- We would add some video clips, webcam conversation </li></ul>
