Case Study NDD Distribution on TYPO3

  1. 1. Special functions for business use:Case study: News Direct-TYPO3Relaunch with ERP ConnecionTYPO3 for Australia’s leading magazine distributorTogether with MassMedia Studios, AOE media has realized an enterprise solu-tion, which combines ordering, invoicing, reporting and a connection to the cur-rent ERP system. Thanks to the seamless blending of these two systems, theentire management and processing of the News Direct Distribution’s productdistribution now runs on TYPO3.ChallengeThe News Direct Distribution re-launch project confronted the developers atAOE media with some interesting challenges: a concept had to be technicallyimplemented that could manage and organize the orders, returns, invoicing anddeliveries of a host of magazine titles to roughly 9.000 associated outlets with-out a hitch. NDD offers a choice of about 1,500 titles from 250 publishers tonewsagents, shops and kiosks.• Specially adapted Frontend for the clear display of all current andprevious orders on an account;• Return of defective or outdated product as well as re-ordering can allbe automatically handled by the system;• Call-up of invoices and delivery notes from the “Redmap” DMS via acustom-developed AP interface extension.2009 Copyright by AOE media GmbH.Our client, News Direct Distri-bution, is entirely satisfied withtheir new TYPO3 Enterprise WebContent Management System. In collaboration with the avail-able system, this AOE media-realized solution has resultedin a genuine, complete productmanagement package underTYPO3 operation.Elmar Platzer,Chief Operating OfficerMassMedia Studios Pty Ltd.
  2. 2. SolutionThis intelligent enterprise solution, including website, was made possiblethanks to a large number of custom-programmed TYPO3 extensions. No lessthan 3 separate systems had to be seamlessly integrated with one another:the enterprise resource planning System “APPX”, the document managementsystem, “Redmap”, as well as the reporting solution “Crystal Reports”. Thismeans that the entire sales, marketing, ordering, storage record, dispositionand distribution of the many titles in stock now run through the APPX-Server.The ERP server’s databank also synchronizes with the TYPO3 server’s MySQLdatabank. These databanks are connected with one another and accessed viaspecially adapted extensions. All data sets: magazine titles, client information,follow-up orders and new orders, as well as the display of defective stock; areavailable on both the TYPO3 databank and the ERP. Storage comparisons tofacilitate orders, re-orders or return of stock from customers are taken careof during overnight automatic synchronization of the data sets on both servers. All orders can now be independently activated by the relevant newsagentor shop. The previously unreliable business and contact model via tele-phone has been superseded by a fully automated, easy-to-use and secureTYPO3 system. This enables not only a vastly improved client service butalso results in significant cost reductions.News DirectMAgazinesare ourbusiness.About NDD:News Direct Distribution isAustralia’s leading marketing, distribution and sales organiza-tion for the consumer magazinesector.
