  • Thor is the god of thunder and he is often associated with strength and lightning. He was the son of Odin and Jörd, husband of Sif and with her, father of Thrud and Lorride (cybersamurai.net). Thor did not ride a horse; instead he had a chariot pulled by two enormous billy goats, Tanngniost and Tanngrisnir. The wheels of the chariot made a noise like thunder when Thor raced across the heavens. MjollnirThors hammer was not only a weapon but a symbol of fertility to, used at weddings, and of resurrection, used at burials. Thor also had iron gloves with which he could crush rocks, and a belt, Megingjardir, which doubled his mighty strength. Thor sent the rain that made the fields fertile.(goddessfreya.info/myths/thor.htm). Thursday is named after Thor, means “Thor’s day”. The painting is made by MårtenEskilWinge in 1872. (wikipedia)“Thor's Battle Against the Jötnar” (1872) by Mårten Eskil Wingehttp://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorhttp://www.cybersamurai.net/Mythology/nordic_gods/T/thor.htmhttp://www.goddessfreya.info/myths/thor.htm
  • The story “The theft ofThors hammer” is a about when the giant Thrym stole Thors hammer. The gods got angry and worried, especially Thor, because it was their only wepon against the giants. Lokie flew to Jotunheim and Thrym demanded that they brought Freya as his bride in return for the hammer. Lokie flew home and the gods held a meeting where they decided that Thor were to dress up as Freya and travel with Lokie back to Jotunheim. Thrym got pleased to see Freya and so he brought the hammer up to the feast, for it would be used to bless their wedding, and Thor grabbed it and killed them all. http://www.goddessfreya.info/myths/thor.htm
  • WhenThor is illustrated in pictures one can easily recognize him because of his hammer, Mjölnir (wikipedia.org). Some times he rides in a cart or chariot pulled by two goats that to is a classic signature for Thor (cybersamurai.net). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thorhttp://www.cybersamurai.net/Mythology/nordic_gods/T/thor.htm
  • I have chosen to compare Thor with the Greek god Zeus because both of their attributes are lightning and they are both associated with strength . Zeus is the father of all Greek gods, he is the god of the sky and thunder. His weapon is the lightning bolt. He also has a bird that represents strength, courage, and justice.
