The Friends of St Nicholas held their annual general meeting on March 18th, 2014. The minutes from the previous year's meeting were approved. As a result of a previous visit, the Friends had successfully become a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation. The secretary's annual report summarized the main events of the year, including a heritage event that raised over £900 and a fundraiser that raised £3,000. The accounts showed £8,310 in funds with fixed assets of £9,272. Plans to restore at least one church window this year were approved, and funding opportunities would be explored. The meeting approved continuing plans to restore the church building and opening the vestry after Easter.

Minutes
The minutes of the last AGM of 5th March 2013 were circulated and approved.

Matters arising
Following the visit of Edwina Lloyd of VAO at the last AGM, The Friends of St
Nicholas had successfully applied to become a Scottish Charitable Incorporated
Organisation (SCIO), and would now be accountable to the regulator OSCR.
Annual Report
The secretary’s annual report summarised the main events as follows: Friends of St
Nicholas becoming a SCIO, the Holm Uncovered Heritage event which had raised the
organisation’s profile and had taken in over £900 in donations, and the Blue Door
fund raising week which had raised over £3000. All were thanked for their
participation in these activities, and special thanks were extended to Erlend Flett,
Athole Thomson and Antoine Pietri for opening and closing the vestry at St Nicholas
daily from April until September. There were many positive comments in the visitors’
book.
Accounts
The accounts had been prepared by Eleanor Macleod and showed £8310 in the bank
and a total value of fixed assets at £9272.The accounts were approved. Proposer Jack
McIntosh, seconded by Erlend Flett.
Management Committee
The Committee was re elected en bloc. Proposer Sheena Wenham, seconded by Joyce
Johnston.
Sheena Wenham was elected on to the committee. Proposer Athole Thomson,
seconded by Tommy Sinclair.
Purposes of the Organisation
The purposes of the organisation as stated in the constitution were given by the
secretary : the advancement of citizenship or community development; the
advancement of the arts, heritage and culture through the preservation, restoration
2. and conservation of St Nicholas Church in the parish of Holm for the benefit of the
public in general. The provision of facilities for the improvement of the quality of life
for the people of Holm.
Improvement Plans
Whilst the long term objective for improvement was based on the envelope restoration
plans drawn by Mark Fresson, and on which funding would be sought, the chairman
sought approval for the restoration of at least one window this year. This was
approved. Councillor Andrew Drever was to pass on information to the secretary on
OIC funding opportunities.

It was felt that the opening period of the vestry should be delayed until after Easter
The secretary offered an oil painting of St Nicholas for Silent Auction during the open
period.
The chairman thanked everyone for attending and closed the meeting.
