Tech Angels Wellington Girls' College

  1. 2. Tech Angels are students who are keen on developing specialized technical skills and who want to work in a collaborative way with staff and other students. Who are Tech Angels?

What do Tech Angels do? <ul><li>Mentoring staff (teaching a teacher!) </li></ul><ul><li>Working at TKI as virtual communicators </li></ul><ul><li>Developing and running the Tech Angel website </li></ul><ul><li>Enter competitions such as Net Guide </li></ul><ul><li>Videoing and photographing school events. </li></ul><ul><li>Lego robotics </li></ul>
  3. 4. Who are Junior Tech Angels? <ul><li>They are Y9 and 10 students who work with and alongside the senior Tech Angels. They attend training courses run by senior students. </li></ul><ul><li>Junior Tech Angels are encouraged to enter competitions and work within our web and multi-media environment. </li></ul><ul><li>This year they will all produce a web site that will be posted on our tech Angel site. </li></ul>
  4. 5. Senior Tech Angels are students in Y10 and above who are prepared to take on their own project such as entering the Netguide Competition or take a mentoring or leadership role. As well as technical skills, you will get the opportunity to develop project management skills, communication skills and leadership skills. Who are Senior Tech Angels?
  5. 6. There is an elected Tech Angel Leadership team of 4 students These students are responsible for running the Tech Angel programme. Mrs Johnson, Ms Bissland and Ms McKenize help to coordinate all the activities and training. Who Organises the Angels?
  6. 7. Te Kete Ipurangi <ul><li>Our Tech Angels answer the students’ questions and reply to emails. They design fun games, quizzes and puzzles for the website. </li></ul><ul><li>The TKI girls help run a website called WikiED. This is an educational website for primary school aged students. </li></ul>

  8. 9. Lego Robotics <ul><li>This is an extension of the Y9 Technology programme. </li></ul><ul><li>Students build and programme robots to play soccer, dance and recover objects. They enter the RoboCup competition. </li></ul>

  12. 13. Staff Mentoring <ul><li>Y13 Tech Angels are paired up with a staff member. They act as an ICT mentor, meeting with their teacher once a week to teach them. </li></ul>
  13. 14. What do I get out of Tech Angels? <ul><li>Tech Angels allows the students to ‘up skill’ in their area of interest whether it is web design or editing video. In the process of doing this students improve their communication and problem solving skills, learn to work in a collaborative way with both staff and their peers, take on leadership roles and manage a project from its conception. They also have fun and make new friends! </li></ul>
