a desire to listen.
It can be done by adopting a positive attitude
for the speaker and his/her subject.
4. The verbal and non
verbal behaviour of
listener will suggest
the speaker that he
is being properly
heard and
understood.
5. A good listener simply paraphrase what the
speaker said and enquire from the speaker
whether he/she heard it accurately.
Some commonly used phrase are:
1. “So u mean to say that…..”
2. “As I gather, you want to tell…..”
3. “Do u mean that…..”
6. To reflect implications listener have to go
beyond the contents of speaker indicating him
the appreciation for his ideas and where the are
leading.
7. Good listener try to empathize or identify
himself with the speaker, to experience what
he/she feels.
8. A good listener always prompt the speaker to
give more information if he/she haven’t heard
or understood enough.

2. “It would be great if you expand more on this”
9. Postures and non-verbal signals like eye
contact, body leaning slightly towards listener,
head nods, etc are signs of a good listener.
Occasional use of some receptive utterances
as “yes”, “un-hum”, indicates interest.
10. Suitable expression with natural smile.
Open postures and open palms.
Appropriate distance.
Do not pretend to show interest.
