  1. 1. FREELANCE 3D ANIMATIONRECOMMENDED RATES OF PAYDecember 2009The table below shows recommended GOING RATES for freelance 3D animation grades. The rates refer to labour only. They do not include any element of hire for kit, equipment etc.The suggested “minimum” rate is just that: the lowest rate that should be paid on any professional orcommercial job.The suggested “going” rate is the rate which we believe is most commonly paid. The suggested “target” rate is the highest rate which has been reported to us.There is still confusion about holiday pay, and about the distinction between “basic” rates which excludeholiday pay, and “rolled up” rates which include holiday pay.In each cell therefore the upper figure is a “rolled up” rate including holiday pay at 12.1%. The lower figure inbrackets is the basic rate excluding holiday pay. When an employer quotes a rate, BECTU advises you to clarifywhether they are referring to the basic rate, or to the “rolled up” rate, in order to avoid confusion anddisputes.FREELANCE 3D ANIMATION : RECOMMENDED RATESSuggested minimumdaily rateSuggested going dailyrateSuggested target dailyrate3D Technical Director £275(£245)£300(£268)£300 +(£268 +)3D Rigger £250(£223)£280(£250)£300(£268)3D Lighting Artist £225(201)£270(£241)£300(£268)3D Animator £200(£178)£260(£232)£300(£268)3D FX Artist £200(£178)£260(£232)£300(£268)3D Compositor £225(201)£250(£223)£300(£268)3D Generalist £175(£156)£240(£214)£300(£268)3D Modeller £175(£156)£240(£214)£300(£268)3D Texture Artist £175(£156)£230(£205)£275(£245)3D Matchmover £175(£156)£220(£196)£250(£223)December 2009
