Letter to the Judges 2011-12

  1. 1. 1550 Owens Store RoadCanton, GA 3011520 March 2012Judges, Senior ProjectCreekview High School1550 Owens Store RoadCanton, GA 30115Dear Judges:Hello, my name is Andrew Anglin. I am a member of the Aeronautics Club at CreekviewHigh School. I enjoy the club, though I view it more as a hobby rather than a career I planon pursuing. Instead, my future plans are to attend North Georgia College and StateUniversity to study law and possibly receive a job with the FBI or CIA. However, myparticipation in the Aeronautics Club has led me to the basis of my Senior Project, whichinvolves the history of rockets and the construction of a small-scale, high-poweredrocket.In order to better understand how rockets have progressed through the centuries, myresearch paper consists of the history of rockets from the beginning of their existence tothe modern age. I furthered my knowledge on how rockets have progressed through theages and this gave me a better understanding of the importance that rockets represent. Ithen was able to build a small-scale rocket through the school Aeronautics Club afterlearning more of the foundation of modern rockets. During the construction of the rocketI received copious amounts of advice from my project facilitator and after the rocket wascomplete, I decided to perform a launch to collect further data. However, I experiencedan engine malfunction that resulted in many broken pieces; thus, I had to reconstructsome parts for the final product.Furthermore, the challenges I experienced through the launch failure helped me learnfrom possible mistakes and how to stand strong in overcoming obstacles. Thesechallenges are experienced every day by those who pursue careers in AerospaceEngineering and space programs such as NASA. Therefore, the problems I facedrepresent current challenges that experts have to overcome as well in order to advancemilitary technology and space exploration. Though, I do not intend on pursuing a careerin any of these fields, I enjoy broadening my views on information and technologydealing with these fields. Finally, I believe Senior Project has better prepared me for college with the format andwork load that I will experience as I further my education. Overall, I enjoyed the projectand overcoming the obstacles I faced as they have made me appreciate those who work
