8 speaking with confidence

  1. 1. Week Eight
  2. 2. This week’s Icebreaker: “Johari Window”
  3. 3.  Quadrant 1: Open Area  What is known by the person about him/herself and is also known by others.  Quadrant 2: Blind Area, or "Blind Spot"  What is unknown by the person about him/herself but which others know. This can be simple information, or can involve deep issues (for example, feelings of inadequacy, incompetence, unworthiness, rejection) which are difficult for individuals to face directly, and yet can be seen by others.
  4. 4.  Quadrant 3: Hidden or Avoided Area  What the person knows about him/herself that others do not.  Quadrant 4: Unknown Area  What is unknown by the person about him/herself and is also unknown by others.
  5. 5.  With your partner:  Share one bit of information from quadrant 1 (what is known by you AND by others)  ASK: One bit of information from quadrant 2 – what your partner notices about you that you might not notice about yourself  Share one thing that most people don’t know about you  Discuss one thing you would like to discover about yourself (or something you are learning about yourself)
  6. 6.  Speeches that were not completed last week
  7. 7.  You have just achieved one of your most important goals, and are being recognized at an awards banquet for your accomplishment. You must prepare a 2 minute acceptance speech to say thank you for the award.
  8. 8.  Today’s goals:  Choose your group  Decide on your format (debate or panel)  Begin brainstorming topics
