  31. 31. St. Spiridon The Contemporary Temple of Saint Spiridon is situated behind the Liston and it was built in 1590. Saint Spiridon has been so closely connected to the fate of Corfu that he became the Patriot Saint of the island. The Saint was the Bishop of Cyprus and his corpse arrived at Corfu at about 1489. Many miracles are attributed to the Saint.   43. 43. Vidos. Small island situated approximately 1,200 m. from the city of Corfu and with a perimeter of about 2,735 m. It is considered that the small island of Vidos is the island of Ptychias, which is mentioned by Thucidides. The island had been used in the past as an isolation camp for a great number of soldiers, who were suffering from contageous diseases, as well as a reformatory for youngsters.
